    Default Locals

In the other thread about arbing sports, a poster mentioned that you should have a credit with a few locals. How does one find locals? Are these danergous people? If I decide to stop betting will they hound me to bet more? Would they try to rob me, knowing I'll have decent money around?

    Thx.

Thanks for the post Korch. Ask one of the mods for my e-mail address and I will take your action.

By the way, I am not dangerous unless you miss a payment.

I'm not sure if you're serious or not, but at any rate, why would I want a local who is sophisticated enough to be on sbrforum? And why woud you want my action if you know I'd be looking to pick you off?

I guess it's just a matter of if you can really "pick me off" or not.

Everyone thinks they can "pick the man off". Otherwise, why would they take the chance.

Do you really think you can do it?

If you're sophisticated enough to know all the online lines, then I wouldn't bother with you. Surely there are some honest reputable bookies who don't know you can bet on the internet...?

Well, my grandmother knows you can bet on the internet.

Locals are, in general, far from dangerous.

Do they offer teasers and stuff?

Sound like I should just stay away?

You can find locals at pool halls,OTB's, the track itself, country clubs, and even one of your local lodge meetings just to name a few. The problem is finding a real good one, because those types of locals are not easy to come by normally.

As far as locals being dangerous type people go. Well, theres two different types of locals.

#1. Your true locals... I strongly recommend not missing a payment or at least working out a payment plan of some kind, or you will have some real problems!

#2. Your recreational type locals... These guys are a bit more laid back, and are much more sympathetic to you having a bad week. However, they are also slow payers when you win and try to collect. These types of locals would be compared to "D-" rated books here at SBR, and you don't want to play with them.

It's not easy arb'ing with locals using the dime line. Besides that you have to always worry about limits as well the dual line factor.

As far as your locals hounding you to bet:

That again depends on what type of local your using. There are a few recreational type locals that will try and "get your goat" sorta speak, in order for you to get mad enough to bet something you really didn't want too.

To answer your last question about getting robbed:

I wouldn't think you would have any problems getting robbed literally at all. Normally it's the other way around where the players will go out and rob in order to payoff there debt.

I rather lose my money offshore, locals are kind of seedy and it is degrading paying them. I think some locals are ok but most fly by nighters. Most are not dangerous as long as you do not hide from them and be honest. The locals that try and rough you up will end up in jail because all you have to do is tell on them if they threaten you and that is why most locals got away from that behavior. Players will squeal in a second if they feel threatened as oppossed to years ago when they would never say anything.

I know a local that offers everything that a popular online sportsbook offers....matter of fact,he tells his customers to go to the site and he'll take any action they offer....you dont have to call him for the lines just go to the site and then call hm to place the bet....Pretty cool setup

Nothing like that...I know this guy,he doesnt work for a book...he just lets his customers go by this books lines so they wont be calling him all the time.....When guys call in their bets they just tell him what they want and never ask for the lines.Saves him alot of time

I had a local that would let you email your plays to him. He didn't offer that service to everyone though, because of the bullshit factor (everything as verified thoroughly of course).

In order to get that privilege though you had to have played with him for many years, and never miss a payment. I personally never used that method before, because I didn't really care for it myself.

And you would be even more surprised that some players don't know how to take advantage of it.
