Question about Wayne Allyn Root
I've read his book, the Zen of Gambling, and thought it was a pretty good read with some pretty solid observations.
I often use the site he is featured on winningedge, when breaking down games.
The site is always plugging Root, trying to get you to buy his picks, saying he's 80% winners on locks of the year, etc etc.
My question to you experienced sports bettors is, do guys like this or any other touts that sell picks actually hold any value? I know that the majority are a sham, but I'm wondering if it is just a majority or ALL of them.
Thanks for the info!

Spam or no spam goldengoat, I'm gonna tell it like it is about this guy
This guy is still trying to live on of one year of success way back in the late 80's on FNN. So, he had one good NFL year picking like 2-3 games a week... big deal.
Personally I feel his plays are no better than anyone else's here that gambles. The only difference is that you have to pay for his picks.
The only thing I give the guy credit for is he knows how to run a business, because if he can get people to pay for his picks then he's one hell of a salesmen.

Exactly. The guy got rich off of sheep paying for his plays not making the plays himself.

Guy doesn't even believe his own BS. I can respect the guys who at least think they can win and still are at best 50-50. Wayne doesn't even believe he can win, this is just that scam he knows he can make coin in so he does it. He runs boiler rooms and is total marketing.

Wayne Root, better known as Scam Root by the people who know him is at the top of the list of scammers. His picks will bury you.
Reading the forums will give you more info than anybody selling picks. There is a reason they sell picks to suckers and not bet the picks themselves.

So funny that they claim like 80% winners... and always point out all the straight upsets he picked (after the fact of course)... bizarre that they get away with it.

USCkingsfan...PM me if you are interested because I can give you a link to a site that posts Root's picks and every other tout out there (i.e. Brandon Lang, Stu Finer, Doc Sports, etc...). I would never pay for a tout but sometimes am curious to see what they are on.

Root is about the worse of the bunch. I like reading Marc Lawrence for free on the SBRforum.com home page but he's not there everyday. You can at least see if his angle makes sense. Paying for picks has always/will always be a losing proposition.

John, Marc Lawrence hit like 40% last year in his playbook picks. Needless to say he falls in the same category as Root. The only difference is the fact that he actually caps the games himself, and his sons too probably

Yes he had a tough year but sharps and squares alike were whipsawed this year. At least he puts out meaningful info and is a good read for the capper. Still wouldnt pay to read it though .

yeah i agree John...his writeups make sense and are more than just guesses there is sound reasoning in them. I like BigAl McMordie too...he seems nice and I almost feel bad that he is on the Winningedge program...he almost looks out of place sitting there with Wayne Root and Ron Meyer considering neither of those guys have capped a game in thier life. A lot like ML, he relies on technical trends. He is very very sharp and really, along with Doc Sports, one of the few touts I would trust.

He just dropped out of the race as Bob Barr became a Libertarian nominee. Still, WAR is a running mate now. We all should be proud for the industry but somehow I am not.

I only thrust my pick and my money, if they are good pick, why are they not opening an account into and book and stay home to make a bet for their living, why are they have to go to work and picking up the phone all day long??
I this is just BS, if their pick is 80%, do you thinks all the sportsbook in this market still survive. finally is it BS to me

Back in the 90s, when the new defunct Stardust held their celebrity handicapping contest during foot season (heard over the radio thru much of SoCal) he admitted that he never bets.
Said sports betting was illegal in the LA area and he didn''t want to break the law. Guess he never heard that Vegas has an airport . . .
Each contestant in that interesting contest picked 7 games, pro of college. Root went 1-6 for a first round elimation.
It's all about salesmanship. Root is a motivation speaker - somewhere he must have read that the first thing to do when making a pitch is to fix your mark with a hypnotic stare.
Which Root does. (Or used to, haven't seen him in years and don't want to). It's the weirdest thing on the tube . . .

Another difference between Root and Lawrence is that Lawrence is monitored, so his record is legit (and currently bad, but that's beside the point). Root always turns down offers to get monitored nowadays (don't know if that was the case way back when), so of course there is no record of the outrageous win percentages that he claims.
