    Default Best QB ever?

PEter King is releasing a book soon based on his SI columns.
in it he lists the 100 best NFL players

the best 12 QBs listed are:
    1. Otto Graham. Easy. Ten seasons, seven championships, seven passing titles.

    2. Sammy Baugh. Had the best season of any player ever in 1943. Led the NFL in passing, punting and, as one of the best safeties in football, in interceptions.

    3. Joe Montana. Made everyone copy Walsh's high-tech offense, and won four titles in a decade.

    4. Johnny Unitas. First great modern quarterback, and great in the clutch. He'd be higher if he won more than one title in his last 14 seasons.

    5. Brett Favre. Most durable, most productive quarterback of all time. Marred by only one title.

    6. Peyton Manning. Could break every record if Favre ever retires. Needs another championship or two to climb the list.

    7. John Elway. Two titles, though they came late, capped the career of a Unitas-type with legs.

    8. Dan Marino. Prototype dropback quarterback who, arguably, was the model for the pocket quarterback of the last 40 years.

    9. Roger Staubach. Might be the best player/athlete/leader of a quarterback ever, and he edges Steve Young in my book with a second title and three more title-game appearances.

    10. Tom Brady. Three Super Bowl wins by age 27, and a fourth appearance at 30.

    11. Bart Starr. All he did was win -- five NFL titles, including the first two Super Bowl titles, both ending with him being MVP.

    12. Terry Bradshaw. Rebounded from a horrible start to his career to lead the Steelers to four Super Bowls in six years.

Agree? disagree? who are your best 12 QBs ever?

maybe one of the most under rated QB's all time. His name is rarely mentioned when discussing greatest QB's.

I am with you however. He would make my top 10

I would switch Favre and Brady. The top 2 way before my time, cant argue with the reasoning though. If Brees keeps doing what he is doing could be on that list in 5 -6 years

I don't think so. He may be a fan favorite of anyone that plays fantasy football, but I think the quality of the average young NFL quarterback is starting to improve, particularly ones that play pro style offenses in college, anyone can put up exceptional stats with a good offensive line and good array of offensive weapons.

Brees needs to get some big wins under his belt and snatch a ring or two for him to be in the conversation for "best" QB's of all time. Way too premature to even consider him.

Dad, I've always had Baugh high up on my list and agree that Staubach should be above Brady and Bradshaw (would also have him ahead of Favre).

That why I said in 5 -6 years, Brees COULD get there. He has surpassed Brady and Manning as the best QB in the NFL at the current time.

That's like asking who is the best baseball player of all time? It depends on the time each QB played in. Football has changed drastically over the years. I can only speak about the QB's I actually watched...... With that being the case I'll put my $$$ on Elway............

I have to agree with this statement.. granted i grew up in miami and share the same last name..

But this guy was top 10 both on the field and off.. Dan Marino was and still is to this day a class act and was the face of that franchise and probably still is..

He found weakness and exposed it.. If Miami could have only built a decent team around him..he would have been the greatest.. but no running game for so many years.. and never once did he have a true #1 receiver... it's a miracle he had the numbers season in and season out... and kept this team in the playoffs year in year out..

I bet a lot of NFL in the late '70's and early '80's. I don't mess with it now much at all, but I never lost on a Pittsburgh game. If they were playing a lousy team giving 3 points, I bet against them. If they were playing a good team giving 20, I took Pittsburgh. I remember a few pushes, but I really don't remember losing. Bradshaw could work a line like a brain surgeon. He's MY favorite all time.

His prime was kind of short, but I wouldn't have a huge problem with him on the list.

I'd like to see a top ten list of qb's from each state..... I think Pa would win by a mile

in PA - All timers - Montana, Marino, Kelly, Unitas, Namath
    An MVP in Rich Gannon
And young potentials - in Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco,
and other solid QBs like Marc Bulger, Matt Schaub

I am sure I am missing many

I have to say Dan Marino is the best I have seen. You can say all you want about him not winning but you put him on another solid team and he wins his fair share of titles.
