Default Hard to find info

I'm just an amateur at this sports betting thing, started in February 07. I wish I saw your thread before that. I've bought some picks from F&H sports and Oddsboard.

I was up to about 72% winning at one point now I'm hovering at about 50%. Needless to say the only people who profited are the handicappers and the sportsbook.

I always wondered why couldn't find any info on them anywhere and why there records were so good when I'm not buying their picks.

I've been on some good streaks with them and some bad but nothing concrete to indicate that there's a scam, except that the only four picks I bought from them in the last 4 weeks were losers and yet they have a 30 day record of 24-10, seems odd.

My stomach hurts after reading this thread.

Anybody with more insight?

Has anyone bought any of these services advertised through handicapping police for any significant length of time? I admit that it all does seems suspicious...but we all know that the handicapping business is a streaky business. It's not hard to imagine that someone is going 50% and then goes on a short term tear. Now, if it always happens when no one is buying their picks, obviously that's a problem.

The other suspicious part is that almost all these guys are hitting 57-60% long term and I'm not sure how possible that is. If anyone looks at a legit sports monitor like sportsmonitor in oklahoma (which I THINK is legit), it doesn't seem like anyone really hits those percentages consistently over the long term.

I have been buying alex meyers from precision picks for the last 15 days and they are 28-23 (which after paying for the picks is about dead even). I'm planning on continuing with it to see how things go. If anyone is interested in joining in, let me know.

Any new insights from anyone on any of this?

I just go opposite what they recommended.

"WHO'll COVER" is running by sportsadvisor.com

Hope everyone follow their picks and just bet against it .

Don't ever pay for picks because most of them are FRAUD. Any good handicapper does not need to sell pick because they can make more money by betting themselves.

Don't be another victim to their SCAM!

I disagree with this statement. The biggest enemy any gambler has is variance. No matter what the game is. Selling picks is a way to smooth out variance. A good handicapper would both bet their own picks and sell them. It is just good business practice in terms of smoothing out variance.

Think about it in terms of the extra effort it would take to sell picks vs the return on this effort if the handicapper is good. He is handicapping the games anyway. He is studying the lines and the line moves anyway. He hires a company to put up and run the website. All the handicapper has to do is type his picks into a data entry screen which then an automated program updates his website. Or the automated program sends out emails. So, for an extra hour a day, the handicapper brings in extra earnings that help smooth out variance. Why would a handicapper not do this?

So many "experts" on this forum make ridiculous claims that all "touts" are crooks, that all touts sell you losing picks and then get paid by the books. That is ridiculous, it is just as hard to pick the losing side as it is to pick the winning side. Sure, some touts are shady, but certainly not all of them are.

LT Profits on this forum sells his picks. I have paid for them a few times. Would you call LT a crook? One of SBR's big advertisers hosts the picks. Just go to the sbrforum home page and you will find the site. I'm not endorsing LT, I'm just saying that there are honest handicappers out there selling picks. (I like LT by the way).

In terms of a handicapper having a blistering hot record and then you buy the picks and they turn ice cold. This is normal. It happens in the stock market all the time. A stock is going up up up, then I buy it and it crashes. There is a good reason for this. By the time JQ Public notices the stock is going up so much the move is over.

I have often thought that handicappers probably go through the same thing. The public only notices them when they are on fire, but no one can maintain a redhot record forever, so when the public starts following the handicapper he cools off.

I know someone that has a handicapper site. He has some customers who buy for the season and other customers who buy by the week, or by the day. He tells me all the time that the customers who buy by the week or by the day invariably get in when he is hitting a losing streak. Then they leave after sending hate mail, then he gets hot again but they weren't playing the picks that week, then they see the record of the hot streak, then they buy a week's worth of picks again....etc, etc. I have seen this happen because I know some of his short term customers.

If you are going to try a new pick service, I would recommend keeping the bets small at first, but you have to be in for the long haul. I try out new pick services all the time. I bet their picks small for a few weeks and see what happens. I don't care so much if they win or lose as whether or not their picks make sense. Sometimes handicappers just have bad luck. But I have tried out pick services where the picks just made absolutely no sense. Or where the pick service just flat out lied to me. I remember one service that I gave my phone number to. The dude called me and said "we went 8-0 in the early games, we are telling everyone to bet team X in this late game HEAVY". I was already on this game on the other side and the pick they made just made absolutely no sense. So, I asked "why do you like this team"? The answer that I was given was very vague. That team got blown away. The guy called me the next day and I said "seems funny that yesterday you went 8-1 and the only pick you lost was the one you tried to sell me". I told this dude that I would try them out for a few weeks if I could pay them a % of the winnings AFTER the game was scored, but they had to give me all their picks BEFORE the games started, there could be no more of this "we are 150-0 today and we have some late night picks for you" bullshit. I never heard from them again. LOL

Anyway, for anyone to make a blanket statement "never use touts" is stupid. Find good, honest ones and use them. Plus do your own picks. Plus find good posters at forums like TheRX, SBR, etc, and MAYBE, just MAYBE with all those sources of sound information you might break even. LOL

The guys running these sites are some of the worst people in the world. It's straight up fraud what they do in my opinion. When noone purchases their picks, they just post winners to their records. I wasted A LOT of my real money on their fake picks. I finally figured it out in July of last year and I'm still not over it because I fell really hard for this scam. I was blinded by greed and the idea of making money so easily. I fell for the fancy wesbites, and most of all I wanted to believe that it was true. It was a real wake up call and it was a really humbling experience. Most of the people out there are scumbags and don't care who they hurt along the way. It's the new generation of the boiler room scam. In this case however there was absolutely no phone support offered. And it wasn't like falling for some blow hard on the phone saying he'll go 4-0 with his picks if you pay him $20. Looking at the documented records and the high cost of the picks made it seem so plausible. I remember scratching my head looking at some of the picks I paid for. I had to go against my own instincts because most of their picks didn't make sense. For example if there was a pitching change in baseball, the pick would remain the same. How is that possible? But I said hey, who am I to argue with a guy who can pick 60% in every sport? Obviously I didn't think it through. If something is to good to be true, it's the worst thing to get involved in.

I did get a good amount of the money I paid for the picks back on my credit card. I suggest you dispute the charges if you paid with a credit card. PayPal will give you a harder time and there is a time limit. But what about the money I lost actually betting the picks? Who do I go to to get that money back?

These websites can ruin lives. It snowballs so fast and before you know it, you've lost more money than you can imagine. You have to bet more than you should be because the cost of the picks are so high. And it's not even a gambling problem. These sites took all the fun out of gambling. When you lose almost every night, gambling makes you physically sick. It becomes a pride issue when seeing the results they've posted for so long. You say to yourself, well they've never done this bad before, things will turn around. And the day you decide not to bet their picks, of course they go 5-0, which made everything much much worse.

I don't know how they can live with themselves stealing so much money from people. Another thing that bothers me is that there is pretty much nothing we can do about it. Do we report them to the police? Better Business Bureau? Consumer Affairs? What are they gonna do about? Investigate a gambling website? No way.

Well, I'm very happy to see that they are down right now. I hope they stay down for good. I've wished horrible things on them and can only imagine what I would if I met the guy who made all these sites. The sad part is, all I can do is imagine it.

i checked out handicapping police and noticed they show services that immediately state their picks for the day after the game starts, this is from their site "ALL APPROVED HANDICAPPERS MUST RELEASE PICKS AFTER START OF EACH GAME"...anyone know if this is new? i personally think that buying picks from a capper you have never met is insane....

And concerning this post BuddyBear, I'm not sure why anyone would want picks from Wayne Root, he is the leader in bogus handicapping...dont fall for him!!

I realize that this thread was started a long time ago and what is true now might not have been true a while ago. However, Handicapping Police now makes the cappers show the picks soon after the game starts (from visiting the site periodically over the past year, I estimate that feature was added within the last 3-5 months). I have been testing a few of the sites by going on within about 10 mins or so after game time, and the ones I have been watching all follow this policy; very soon after the game starts, the pick is shown. I have been tracking eddiehawk.com, seanarcher.com, and kennethmarcelli.com all for a few months. I can't see any dishonesty going on of any of these sites. I think that without the 'picks shortly after game start rule', it's likely there were a lot of scamdicappers on HP.

That said, if you look at their records from the last 90 days, as opposed to the all-time records in each sport, they have all done at least a few percentage points below their historical averages. Certainly it's possible that they are all in a bit of a slump at the same time, but it's a little suspicious (to me at least), given the timing of HP adding the new rule which seems to force the cappers to be honest.
