Official Beat The Prick 2009 Information/Questions thread
Beat The Prick 2009 Information
http://www.sbrpicks.com/BeatThePrick2009/
How to sign-up: Join here
PRIZE-POOL INFORMATION
WEEKLY PRIZE
$5,000 purse divided among those that finish at least .500, positive units, and Beat The Prick.
GRAND PRIZE
1.) $5,000
2.) $2,500
3.) $1,000
4.) $750
5.) $400
6.) $200
7) $150
All weekly & Grand Prize cash carries 4X rollover.
- Do I have to submit all 16 accounts?: You must submit the Bookmaker (Grand Prize) account prior to making any picks to be eligible for part of the overall prize pool at the conclusion of the contest. As for the 15 weekly rounds, you can enter that week's required sportsbook account each week.
- What happens if I only enter 4 weekly rounds, and a Grand Prize book?: You will only be eligible for the weekly $5,000 purse for those 4 weeks. You are still eligible for the Grand Prize provided you make a minimum of 48 picks.
- If I hit 'No Prizes' for all weeks, can I win prizes?: If you do not enter any sportsbook account information, you cannot win a cent. If you enter the 'Grand Prize' account, and do no enter any of the weekly accounts, you can still win the season-ending prizes. However, that would mean you would forfeit a significant amount of money each week. The most optimal way to play is to enter in all required accounts for full prize eligibility.
CONTEST RULES
- Objective: Beating The Prick. Simply finish with more units than the Prick (you must be positive units) and cash in on that week's prize. If the Prick goes 4-0 ATS (NFL/NCAAF), nobody wins any money that week. If the Prick goes 3-1 +3.00 units, and you go 3-1 +3.01 units, you have beaten the Prick and will cash in a portion of the $5,000 Prize-Pool. Your share will be dependent on how many others have also beaten the Prick, and if anyone went 4-0.
- You must enter 4 picks each week. You can enter one pick at a time. You must designate one as your 'Best Bet', which will double the win amount to 2 units. If you make 3 picks without designating one as your Best Bet, the fourth will automatically be made into a Best Bet. You cannot change best bets at any time, for any reason. Once plays are entered they are official, only in the case of a bad line will a line be canceled.
- Contest begins: Tuesday September 8th
- Contest ends: Monday December 21st

1. Why does looselines conflict with Jazz? I've been having this problem for a week.
2. Do we need to make a new deposit in any of these books to be eligible for prizes?

Looselines and Jazz are one and the same. I tried siging up for one and it said I already had an acct.
I got on live chat and they said since I signed up for the other than I already had an acct.
something about Looselines just handles CS for jazz or the other way around, IDK.

Jazz needs to be removed from the contest. I think that is what my friend had an issue with.

It looks like sbrpicks is the new contest site, so is sbrcontests.com basically extinct now? If we had contest credits..can we use those credits for anything in the future or are they worthless.

The SBRcontests.com credits are no longer used for anything. As for the site itself, it may still have a place but as far as contest participation, making picks, it will all be ran through the new SBRpicks.com platform.

So, just like last year, a poster could theoretically go 1-3, losing their BB in the process, and still win a piece of the weekly pool if the Prick goes 0-4? For those unaware of Pricky's handicapping abilities, this will be a common occurrence... he's horrendous.
Why not set a minimum weekly record to be eligible for that week's funds? Just dilutes the weekly purse and takes away from those who have earned money when Prick has a poor week and the majority of entrants get paid, even when submitting a lackluster record in their own right. Sucks to put up a 4-0 on a week where Prick goes 1-3 or 0-4.

Correct, if the Prick goes 0-4 ATS, so long as someone is 1-3 and positive units they will cash in a tiny portion of the $5,000 weekly prize pool. The prize is split up with larger portions going to those with the most units won, so if you go 4-0 +4.00 you can figure to receive a far better payout than those who did much worse.
Correction: In order to cash in on the weekly $5,000 prize pool, one must be at least .500 (2-2, or even 1-1-2), must be positive units, and teat The Prick.
When you go 4-0 though, I understand the desire to have the Prick go 3-1. The Prick has actually spent some of the off-season under the tutelage of renowned world-class handicappers, so I am expecting him to perform strongly with many 3-1 or better weeks.

The % of the prize pool you receive is split between how many people beat the Prick, and what the amount of units won were.

I had the same problem you guys are saying.
I would imagine you would get around this if you simply use two different email addresses.
I didn't try that method since I had a hunch that using two email addresses for the same 1 person could be in violation of their terms of service

Yes I do agree I think this format will be better, I went 4-0 a few times last yr and only got maybe 60 dollars cause the Prick sucks at picking picks. You guys said he spent the offseason studying up last yr and he still stunk it up all yr. So I like the have to have a postive points week in order to qualify, I suggested that last yr as well.! GL to everyone this yr! I will be looking for a repeat finish in the top prize!

I assume that odds will be involved, not just won-lost record. So if the Prick goes 2-2 and wins his best bet for +0.8 units and I also go 2-2 and win the best bet and end up +0.9 units, do I beat the prick and share the loot?

If you win a weekly prize, where are the (typical 5x rollover) winnings deposited?
I have assumed that the winnings will go into the account that is sponsoring that week's contest, but there is no indications in the rules where it will go. Can we say which book we want it to go into? Can you just put it into Bookmaker since that is the final season sponsor?
Man, 2 years ago you guys just mailed us checks, and those days seem looong gone.
On the other hand, I like having to be positive in the points to cash in since that will make the winnings pool smaller and more deserving.
