Interesting point of view Justin. The US Govt. IMO wouldn't give back a dime owed to the US players just because it would give US players a sense of security if this ever happened again. The US is trying to discourage not encourage us to play offshore.

In this case though, the US mugging of Betonsports leaders is what caused the book to fail. If the US hadn't kidnapped Caruthers out of the Dominican Republic, and nabbed Gary Kaplan during a stopover in an international flight, all these players would still have their money (or lost it, or gotten a payout).

I think this resolution is ridiculous. It's a horse and pony show, and the players were ****ed. Restitution, track the old money... I don't buy that "Betonsports was bankrupt". The made over $1b in 2004. These profits... funneled elsewhere. Once they sign the plea deal, they have no way to go after that money. But Prosecutor Hanaway doesn't give a shit. She's probably patting herself on the back, and has no clue how many ways she blew it.

Maybe. But he has all his money in a foreign trust. Even if you got a judgment against him, you could not collect.

yeah even with the prosecution money can not be retrieved most of thme are being moved right now by ht board of directors of betonsports before thats why some of them are using costa rican now to make a dummy corporation in costa rica so they can hide the money tuorisim , investment firm and other things ... so if will be impossible to recover that money

Well, if the government's goal is to discourage offshore betting, it's their best move. If they do this enough times, people will be afraid to send money offshore to bet, thus choking off the demand from here. Not only do players have to worry about books fleecing players, they'd have to worry about getting funds seized by the government!

second of all most the managers and directors of betonsports are now operating under a big company in costa rica like BETCRIS so they can operate under the radar and move the money without US goverment seeing them

I'm surprised about such a long prison system. But restitution to the players? You've been around long enough to know the govt or the gaming boards have no concern for the player. No surprise there.
