Default OT - director Robert Altman died last night

He was 81. Cause of death undisclosed as of right now.

His professional highlights would generally be considered M*A*S*H*, Nashville, The Player, Short Cuts and Gosford Park.

I'd say my favorites are Short Cuts and The Player. M*A*S*H* too.

I just saw A Prairie Home Companion last week. Probably not one of his all-time best but a nice friendly film.

He had a very distinctive movie-making style and a habit of saying **** you to critics and the Hollywood mainstream. He was more focused on vision than crowd-pleasing. Good for him.

They finally did give him a well-deserved career achievement Oscar this year.

To the career of Robert Altman -

The Player and Short Cuts are two of my favorite movies of all times.

A fantastic director to be sure. His talents will be missed.

He leaves a great body of work. One of the last great American filmmakers.

I could have hated ALL of his work and I'd have still respected him for that.

MASH and Short Cuts would run 1-2 on my list. He also did a lot of television stuff, including some of the old Hitchcock's.

Very well put Mudcat. The Player is the one I remember most because for some reason at that time every friend I visited seemed to be watching so saw many times.
