Default NFL Preseason - Your thoughts...

I usually don't play preseason as the better team sends out the shittiest players and lose..

but that has always made me wonder how many dogs win preseason games.. I never traked this data, but I do seem to remember many winning..

If you HAD to place a DOG bet, who would you pick? I am really liking the broncos.. LOL

fyi: I probably won't bet preseason, but I am itching since I stopped betting baseball (after it consistently kicked my ass )

NFL Preseason is the easiest sport to make money in. Yes, even easier than NFL regular season and Playoffs. I am over 60% in preseason since 2000.

can I get some pointers from ya?

is it a "system" like betting all dogs or similar?

I have no idea who to go with as you never know who is actually gonna take the field and for how long..

I have been keeping track of all Preseason game sides and totals since 2005, and have a crappy pivot table that I will post up here for ya. I made this pivot table on excel 2003 at work, and that is what we still use there. Looking at it at home on this crappy vista version, I lose most of the information on the pivot table, but the data is still there. Can someone tell me how I can get it to display the data on this crappy vista version? WTF.

I will actually have a Preseason article up on the NFL page of sbrforum.com in the morning.

For basic starters, try to avoid betting on favorites or Overs in the first two weeks. Also pay attention to each coach's past history in preseason, and keep a close eye on the websites of the local newspapers in each market, as preseason NFL is the only sport where coaches often reveal their game plans and player rotations before the games, and actually stick by them.

Wong underdog teasers, i.e., dogs that are between +1.5 and +2.5 on the straight line, as they cross the 3 and 7 when teased.

As LT said, teasers that cross the 3 and 7. They're better than regular season teasers because preseason totals are lower.

If I make a bet it is usually the under, or a very good team in 1st half or the dog for the game.

It used to be that you can blindly bet every Under in Week 1, but surprise surprise, the books caught on and started posting much lower totals first week of preseason.

White font is the problem? Are you effing kidding me? Excel is discriminating against white font? At home I can change, but at work, I have a cool Tool theme, and the white font offsets the dark grey background nicely. What if I tried a dark red or even blue?

My instinct was to go with the dogs... and it seems I was on the right track for week one.. will follow the numbers and update my own notes and compare from last season's spreadsheet..

and I do agree with you.. new coaches are somewhat of a monkeywrench in the data, but as you said, looking at depth in week 4 should get us by..

    thanks LT!

That statement in itself says that all dogs have value.
