when you get sick of the gum, give chantix a try. ive never smoked, but hear this pill works better than anything that has been on the market.

Good luck SSLP, it will be one of the toughest things you've ever done but also one of the very best things you could do for yourself and your family.

SSLP you will not quit

I say you quit for 2 weeks and then go crazy and have a need to smoke again or you will kill someone.

SSLP it's interesting you started this thread. I decided the same thing on Saturday night after a night out drinking and smoking.

I used to smoke about 3-4 packs a week (only when I drank) but the past few weeks my lungs have been sore so finally I was like, "f\*\*k this sh*t".

I'm on day 3 and Ive been on the gum and feeling pretty good. But Ive come to the conclusion that I won't be able to drink for at least for a month because that triggers a desire to smoke.

Good luck to us and others bro!!

I quit in 1990 after smoking for about 12 years. Glad I did. I went cold turkey. I was tired of having it control me so I said fukk it and ripped the band-aid off.

I expected some short-term pain and I got it. But it's all a distant memory now.

I am not criticizing this - whatever works for you is all that matters - but man, this method would not have worked for me no way, no how. Just thinking about it feels like prolonged torture.

Good luck, whatever you do.

Yeah for the first time ever smoking is more than just "something that's not good for me". Now it's something that I can actually feel bringing down the quality of my life.

I used to run 2.5 miles a day while I was a social smoker but I can't do that anymore because Im so fvcking winded. And now it's a guarantee that when I smoke, I sleep like total sh*t.

I look at those black lungs whenever I get the urge.

Have you completed form S101-Q and then had it notarized by a lawyer?

Your attempt at quitting smoking will not be official until these steps have been completed.

Should you not complete the process outlined above, your attempt at quitting smoking will officially be considered an unofficial attempt at quitting smoking NOT an official one, good luck.

God bless.

I quit May 9th 1997, just put them down after 20 years. Best advice I can give you is keep away from anyone smoking, dont let anyone smoke in your home, car, etc., and dont go anywhere people are allowed to smoke for the 1st month. After a few months anyone or anywhere people smoke will disgust you from the smell, GL.

later

GL, SSLP. I'm fukkin sick as a dog right now and still puffin them down. Fukkin disgusting. Worst part is that I quit for 2.5 years and started up again about 4 years ago. Right now, I feel like absolute shit. The 110 degree weather and 70 degree air conditioning really fuks with my body this time of year. I always get a cold. I've got a burning cough and it hurts like hell to smoke a cigarette, but I'm still choking them down. If there was a good time for me to quit again, it'd be now, but I have too much shit going on right now to go through the withdrawals. If only it were a month later...

Good luck, man. Give the rest of us some inspiration to quit as well...

I don't post here much, but in about a week it will be 1 year since the last time I smoked a cigarette. I am 29 and was smoking a pack a day since 18. I smoked as a kid as well, just not consistently. I quit by using the gum for about a week or two, and sporadically when I had a major craving. It's not easy, but it can be done with a little help and will power. Good luck to you, it will be one of the best decisions of your life.

didn't read the thread, but this is the right thing to do.

btw, most likely you'll need to replace smoking w/ something else to fill that void

you should get into fitness

its a cliche and i hate cliches but its mind over matter, **** gum and band aid and pills and all that bullshit. See youve got a warning by virtue of a heart condition, some people dont get that warning, they just keel over and thats that, good night irene. **** them god damn nasty ass cancer sticks.

Dude, stopping smoking has so many positive attributes:

- saves current money
- saves future money (health-associated costs)
- look MUCH better
- feel much better (and this is a BIG one, youll get energy boost from hell and be vivacious once again)
- social enhancement from not smoking
- lowers BP
- stops your dick from getting limp
- you can taste/smell the food your eating (and any rotten pussy youre eating, too)

I mean its your life do what thou wilt but man quit that shit. You need food, water, air, companionship, safety, blah blah blah to live. You werent born yearning for smoke to be inhaled in your lungs. Its a learned behavior. Unlearn it. Now.
