    ESPN The Magazine
Archive The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Phoenix Suns are nearing agreement on a blockbuster trade that would send Shaquille O'Neal to Cleveland to team with LeBron James, according to two sources with knowledge of the discussions.
The deal is more than "90 percent" complete, according to the sources, and is merely awaiting final approval from the team's owners.
Cleveland will send Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic to Phoenix for the future Hall of Famer.

Kobe vs Shaq n Bron is what the league is prob salivating over...

I still say it's gonna be Hou vs Cle... the chinese investors who own cle now and then Yao being from China are gonna give us a series where the NBA really capitalizes on the ever-growing Chinese Market...

Cleveland didnt even make it to the finals and you guys are already locking them up for an appearance?

What about Orlando, this team is on the rise and will only get better as Howard develops.

I still LOVE Orlando, but they may take next year off as the league gets its China Finals of Hou vs Cle... That would have to be a marketing DREAM for the league. More so than Kobe vs Shaq and Bron

But I hope I'm wrong and Orlando wins it all.. If my beloved Suns can't win, I wanna see Orlando do it. That team is a joy to watch

Eh - Orlando showed they didn't belong there. The Cavs only lost to Orlando 'cause they had no one to control Dwight and the Cavs getting Shaq would definitely help with that.

I'm not saying it's a lock for the Cavs to be in the finals. You know Shaq is going to be motivated like hell after Kobe just won. You don't think he wants to win at least one more? Shaq is going to go out with a bang, and let's not forget that he had a good season with the Suns last year. He put up solid numbers.

I'm a suns fan and I'm glad to see this. Shaq should have never come to PHX like I said from the start.

I dont even know how they plan to incorporate shaq with lebron. Hes going to always be in lebrons way.

You can bet your ass that the NBA is going to be fixed next year for the Lakers and Cavs to meet. Just imagine those ratings...Kobe vs. Lebron. Shaq vs. Kobe. Will Lebron stay with the Cavs if they win a championship? Will he go to NY?

It'll be filled with nothing but drama.

Oh please, Orl definitely belonged there. Heck, they were Courtney Lee layup and Dwight FT's away from being up 3-1 instead of 1-3. Sure, they quit after losing the lead in game 5, but that team showed they belonged. They may have given the Finals away, but they deserved to be there

I agree that Shaq will be motivated to win with Cleveland. From what I've read tho, he is looking to play a couple of more years after this. So not only will getting another ring be motivation, getting another contract may be the extra motivation he needs.

His season with Phoenix this last year showed the guy still has some gas left in the tank...

I don't agree. Just look at the dynamic that Shaq and D-Wade had. D-Wade also goes to the basket the same way Lebron does. It'll work out.

Shaq didn't work out in Phx because of the run and gun system. Plus, when they did slow it down to a half court game, Shaq and Amare would just clog each other down in the lane.

Maybe not in the US, but in China, this would be the Dream match-up for that market, Yao from China and Chinese investors owning Cleveland.

This would prob be the num2 scenario for the NBA, or a great twist to 'surprise' us...

Giving those games away is what shows that they don't belong. You think a mentally tough team like the Spurs would've "given" those games away? No way. Dwight is still too immature and needs to grow up and quit thinking that he's playing Football like a past poster said.

Plus, the Magic just might let Turk go. They don't exactly have a great front office.

If they want to win - they should trade Nelson for a decent big man bench player. Get someone else down in there that can help Dwight instead of that bald-headed Polish character.

No because Kobe and Lebron are both popular there, too.

I don't think the States would watch Rockets vs. Cavs as much as the Lakers vs. Cavs and the most important market is where you sell tickets.

Exactly and look at the size of lebron and amare. You'll notice the similarities.

Those games that were given away were just a couple of tough breaks... Those things do happen you know...

It's a testament to LA's greatness this year that they were able to hang tough and capitalize on Orlando's mistakes. But to say because Orlando had a couple of miscues that they don't deserve to be there is Monday Morning Quarterbacking

And the Orlando front office made a great, altho obvious, pick in Dwight and surrounded him nicely. As well as making that shrewd trade for Rafer. I say they are doing pretty good in setting up a team for the long haul. They may not pay Turk 13 mil, but shit, that may be better for them anyway. Dwight needs another big body to complement him- not him and 4 shooters at all times.

Perhaps they can sign and trade Turk. But to trade Nelson would be akin to cutting off their hand to spite their face.

You may disagree, but that's how I see it...

    Now this, I'll agree with...

But if Hou vs Cle ended up happening, I don't think the league would be too displeased tho. That matchup would go over HUGE in the Chinese market

But, I realize the public here is a lil more important (for now) and everyone will be craving Kobe vs Bron and Shaq

but if Hou vs Cle happens, I want credit! haha

LOL Yeah but Lebron plays more like a point guard and comes from the top of the key. Amare hangs down below. Big difference.

I think it's a good trade for the Cavs. It's definitely a better trade for them than for the Suns. Suns got jack shit.

Did they even free up any space? Who's going to pay Ben's contract? I think the guy is supposed to make like 16 mil next year.

From what I read... he makes 14 and wants to retire so he will get bought out for prob half that. And Sasha is only on the hook for 1.5 guaranteed and they will cut him. Save about 5.5 mil, which will make it 10 or more overall when luxury tax is considered.

But hey, Sarver got 500k and the 46th overall pick. Yay! Not...

Time to get an owner that will spend his cash on his team. If you're rich, why own a team if you don't wanna spend on it. I thought the point of a rich guy owning a team was that they wouldn't mind losing a few bucks in order to try and produce a winner...

  32. #32

Had they kept Marion, they would've saved 21mil with him coming off the books...

Oh well.. They took a bold risk with Shaq and altho it didn't work out, I don't think it was an utter failure either.

Just sad how it all worked out tho. D'Antoni leaves, Amare gets hurt. Phx finishes 10 games above .500 and still misses the playoffs... Damn, damn, damn...

  33. #33

Sarver started off doing great. It looked like he was changing the franchise around and did some good shit at the beginning. Man - they sure were fun to watch a few years ago. Now he's done nothing but bonehead moves. Dumbass.

  34. #34

    Default

Yup... very, very sad... They should've won a couple of years ago but the suspensions ended any hope of that. And then Amare got hurt this year. Who knows how good him and Shaq could've done together under Gentry had they had time to get that going. Oh well...

Hopefully Amare and Nash aren't just handed away...

I doubt this helps Cleve much, you sure will never ever to get a ticket to these games. I think Cleve wins less than 60 games next year.
