Default Travelers Championship PGA Tour Golf

Playing golfers the week after a Major is difficult because it’s entirely possible they don’t even want to be there so keeping stakes to a minimum is the way to play this week. I’m having 1 Unit Win (40-1 Ladbrokes) and 1 Unit Top 5 Finish (10-1 Ladbrokes) on Ben Curtis.

He’s been finishing well in top class company this season (T35 Masters, T22 TPC and T6th in the Euro Tours biggest event of the year, the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth and on that occasion he finished behind Casey, Fisher, McElroy and Kjeldson which is top class form.

He’s also made 11-of-12 cuts this year, including the US Open where a last round 79 put him out of contention and that would be his only downside, he does seem to leave his worst rounds for the 4th round.

Sooner or later he’ll make a cut and be challenging, and when he does that his record shows he goes close, so given he’s made 11-of-12 cuts, 40-1 seems more than fair.

My second bet is Half Unit Win (200-1 Extrabet) and Half Unit Top 5 Finish (50-1 Extrabet) on Chris Riley.

Riley has never quite made it to the big time but his record is littered with decent finishes, including second in this in 2003. He’s obviously hit-and-miss but the thing I like about him is his last two Tour finishes have been T23 in the Byron Nelson and T29 in the Fed Ex St Jude where he took the fewest putts out of anyone in the field, so although he’s a 200-1 shot, he’s not a 200-1 shot that’s completely without hope.

Ben Curtis 1 Unit Win (40-1 Ladbrokes) and 1 Unit Top 5 Finish (10-1 Ladbrokes)

Chris Riley Half Unit Win (200-1 Extrabet) and Half Unit Top 5 Finish (50-1 Extrabet)

3 Units invested

Adding Match Bet: Sergio Garcia to beat Hunter Mahan (+110 Justbet)

At this same book, Ben Curtis is -160 to beat lucas Glover (+130) presumably because the layers think Glover will be burned out after his US Open win. mahan was in contention right to the wire and it's logical to think it took slightly less out of him also. Granted, Garcia isn't playing to the top of his form but I'll take + odds in a match bet against Mahan until my dying day.

5 Units

I'm still pissed at how Weir slumped after his opening 64 last week. I like Woody Austin this week, and saying as much probably jinxes him now. Good luck EM.

Weir looked the likely winner a long way out Willie, he had a terrible patch of nine holes in the third round and that ultimately cost him, which was a shame, I backed him.

Ben Curtis finishes Tied 4th with three others bringing dead-heat place rules into play meaning a five unit profit on Curtis instead of ten.

Riley faded after flirting with the leaders and Garcia never recovered after throwing his toys out of the stroller during the third round.

Curtis tie means I lose two units on the week instead of making three.
