Default Dwight Howard is very overrated

Howard is a dumb player. plays like its football and wants to lay everyone out. He has no real offensive moves at all. I know he is young but i dont see him being smart enough to learn to become a great leader and intelligent player. He needs to spend less time doing shoulder presses and more time learning the game. He is trying to be like shaq but he will never be him. Shaq actually has a nice touch and is pretty intelligent.

Howard will always be a decent player but never good enuff to lead a team to a title.

Oh please... Had Lee made the Game 2 layup and Dwight made one of the game 4 Ft's, Orl would be in command of the series and prob would've played better here in game 5

With that said, I'm VERY disappointed with his effort tonite

You cannot judge him on these games during this series. This was a very ignorant post.

you cannot judge him on how he plays in the NBA finals? That is the dumbest thing i have ever heard. This is when you find out who the real great players are and he did not show up in this series. He doesnt make his teammates better and is a mental midget on the court.

and you will never be a winning sports bettor because you overreact to one playoff series with a guy who is only 23 yrs young and just finished his 5th yr in the league

you are a complete sports know nothing

Hey hoopster im still laughing at your post. Go back a few days and look at my posts on this series. I was exactly right. I said lakers in 5 and have bet them the last two games large. I know basketball talent and howard will never be a superstar the likes of an MJ,Kobe, Shaq, Magic, Bird, etc. He will have a good, not great career because of his lack of intelligence. That simple.

JimmyMac, don't forget that Shaq at Dwight's age didn't win one game against the Houston Rockets in the finals. The Magic did a great job getting to the finals, when they weren't even supposed to be there. The Lakers were just too much for them. The Magic were out coached, and weren't as defensive minded as the Lakers were. Plus, the Lakers had Kobe Bryant.

I do agree with some of your points about Howard. I do think he plays like it's football sometimes. He barrels in and lowers his shoulder a lot. It's something he has to work on. He also has to control his emotions more.

Howard needs to develop a signature shot. Kareem had the Sky Hook, Hakeem had the Dream Shake, Yao has the Shanghai Shake. Right now Howard is too raw, he can't create a good shot for himself because he goes to the hoop too strong, sometimes you need to use a fadeaway.

I agree that he is young and it takes time to develop but i just do not see howard as a superstar or as dominant as Shaq was because he doesnt seem very intelligent to me and i think the difference between really good and great in the NBA has a lot to do with intelligence. Tim Duncan is a perfect example of this.

Again, Howard will have a nice career but this superman stuff is a joke. I see him being too one dimensional to be a top 50 player all time. Not gonna happen. thats all im saying

Dwight Howard is a centerpiece type player. He won't be a Timmy or Shaq, but he will get his due championships. Remember, he has NBA coaching now, no college coaching in between high school coaching. What do you guys think his HS coach taught him, his JR High coach. All they did was make sure that he was able to get the ball. Give this guy time. When he is 30 if he has no titles, I will agree that he is dumb as a rock, but until he has the skill, coaching, maturity, and is at his physical peak in the next 7-8 years, you guys should cut him some slack. There is a reason there are no young CEO's at Fortune 500 companies, they may have the intelligence, but experience is what makes it happen.

Lets see........right now at this very moment he is the best rebounder and best defender in the NBA. Those 2 things alone make him a phenomenal player. But thats not all

How many points did Howard average this year? 21. He averaged 20 in the playoffs. He shot 57% in the regular season AND 60% IN THE PLAYOFFS. You have no idea what you are talking about here OP.

He is getting much better with his non dunk short game. He has the running right hook shot which is unguardable and goes in just about every time he shoots it. All he has to do is develop a short game to his left and he will be the best player in the league. He is far more athletic than Shaq ever was, and he has not even hit his physical prime yet.

When it is all said and done, Howard will go down as a top 5 player to ever live. Coaches and scouts around the NBA say his physical athletic ability is beyond anything they have ever seen for somebody his size.

Hot damn, seaborneq and WileOut brought some passion with their posts...

I have to agree wholeheartedly with what they said. Dwight may have not won it all this year, but the guy is a BEAST and has all the tools to become a great one.

Let's give the guy some time to fully mature. Watch out when he does...

Who's the best Center in the Eastern Conference?...
    And don't say Samuel Dalembert...

Now the best Center in the NBA period without a doubt is Yao Ming even if he is a little soft.

Yao Ming will never win a title, ever. And I think Gasol is better all-around.

If everybody in Houston stays healthy next year and they resign Artest, Houston will have a great chance at winning it all.

I've been following the Rockets for 20 years. Yao is slow and injury-prone, Artest is streaky, McGrady is gone (hopefully), and everyone else is just a good role player (yes, even Scola and Brooks).

They'll be competitive, but that's all. Unless they get a bona fide superstar to help Yao, then maybe (a big maybe) they'll have a chance (assuming Kobe gets injured).

Hey Roag, I like ya, but I'm gonna disagree with you here. I mean, you are correct in your player assessments but I think Houston will be the Western Conference representative next year. If Phil retires, that leaves La, Den and Hou as the likeliest West contenders.

With the way Hou played without T-Mac, with or without him, I think they can make a run next year.

My early next season Finals would be Hou vs Cle (assuming they get Shaq)

Hey, I'd love to see the Rockets do it, but I don't see it happening. They over-achieved this year, and unless they get a stud next year who fits in with the team they'll be lucky to repeat what they accomplished.

Wileout I hope you are not serious about top 5 players ever for Howard. He is not even a top 5 player in the nba right now. Anyone who knows anything about basketball knows that a big man can not be one dimensional and Howard is not gonna develop a jump shot ever because he cant shoot period. He is a strong player that bullies guys around and that will help him be a good player but never a great player. Top 5 player ever is just a joke. he will not even be considered one of the top 5 centers of all time let alone top 5 players.

wile, top 5 in nba history? i dont think so, but will like to see that. D12, looks like a good guy and ready to listen on how to improve his game, unlike olowakandi an kwame.

yao is all hype. he is soft unlike pau who improves his strength and able to show up against the most powerful center.

the poster need to realize that D12 had develop a lot of improvement on his game and his strength is his most potent asset. working out and lifting weights is being done by all nba players esp those who are most successful and ambitious. MJ, kobe, all worked their butts off to improve their strength. you cant win by talent and skills alone. use your noggins and worked like hell on off season to continue to improve

    He will be fine

His biggest weakness is he is a clown and not an ultra competitive person that works hard enough to be a winner like other great players.

jj knows how to call it- right on the mark the guy can hit shots from his own end but not free throws

He is a center it is acceptable for a Center to not shoot FTs well. People still try to claim lebron is great even though you can't trust him at the FT stripe with the game on the line and he is a guard/forward which is not acceptable. Howard still has a lot of room to grow, but Ewing has stated that his potential is unlimited and he will go down as one of the greatest Centers of all time. I will trust Ewing who played the game and still coaches the game over a guy with 30 post in a forum.

Couldnt agree more. Howard is obviously physical freak of nature which cant be taught. On the other hand he has a very limited offensive repertoire which can be expanded, but I dont know that you can teach him to posses that killer instinct that Kobe has.

No i would have to say u know nothing. This fella is dead on. Howard has the NBA IQ of a ten year old. I never saw a player in my life make the same mistakes over and over again like he does.
