Default I am living proof: Only way to win is getting a good number

Boys....I have lost many thousands of dollars gambling based on handicapping and using the ESPN approach. Boys, I have lost tons on Kentucky basketball too....guys I know what the fukkin team eats for dinner, who was out late, I got all of the information on them. I get inside information on who is happy, who the coach is going to play, who is a cancer, how the team chemistry is, etc. and it doesn't matter...I'm still a big loser.

In this June contest thing, I am playing numbers only, I haven't watched baseball all year, just looking at numbers and playing my edges. Boys I am in like 2nd place and up about 11 units in 12 days.

Nicky, I am getting real good at this and about to deposit a dime or two at Matchy and try to do this in real life, just try to get good numbers and use money management and not watch games.

It is the only chance you got at winning. It does not matter what Carlos Zambrano's ERA is in the day against the Mets at home with the wind blowing in....it don't matter. Getting a good number is what matters, I am living proof here boys.

Nicky thanks for all of the advice over the years.

this after you called me a square last night?

onner, seriously, that was by far your sharpest post of all time here at sbr. congrats..

onner, if only people would listen to that post, there'd be a lot less people losing money here. onner, i don't care what anyone says.. i dont care if they swear to me til they're blue in the face... if they are not beating the closing #, they have NO CHANCE of coming up ahead..that's right.ZERO CHANCE.... I don't care how much you know.. your bets better beat the closing # consistently or you will lose.

onner, if you ever do decide to gamble for real $$ doing this.. you better do the following.. do NOT chase, bet within your means and most important, DO NOT bet games for the sake of betting if you dont have a good #.. like tv games.....

and you will do ok..

good post, buddy..

this thread should have a stickie on the top page for every poster to read.. cause it will save you your life and perhaps turn you into a winning gambler, instead of a broke gambler...

few here can win. we don't have the time, desire, and bankroll to do things right.

Guys like Vegas Dave need to take this approach. They let their ego get in the way and will never be a winner until they listen to Nicky

This is Nicky using onner's username to post. Couldn't be done worse by any better douches.

That's great, but I'm right there with you in this thing and I'm straight handicapping. So what does that prove?

Yeah, yours is the only way. Ok.

If your serious onner then I say you do this for an entire season. I dont even want to ask what the sample size of your 12 day run is. If you can hold out and do it for a year then I trust you have self-control and the will power to win. Otherwise your just chasing your good results which don't correlate to anything.

You mean stylistically? Or in the "I know it all and I'm telling you idiots there's only one way to do it - my way - because it's the only way that's worked for me" attitude?

Or both? I can see what you mean either way.

alright, so let me get this straight?? you are handicapping games, you are NOT beating the closing # consistently, and you're up??

i hope i am not reading this correctly.. cause it would be a funny post if you are saying this..

i am not saying that you can't win handicapping games. sure you can.. but if you are handicapping games, you better be still beating the closing # or you will fail at this game..

if you are handicapping games, and lines are moving against you, and you say you are making money, then you are dreaming.. whichever way you are betting, you better be beating the close, or you will be eating in a soup kitchen soon..

Most people will always try and pick their own games because of ego and do not care about getting the best number, ect. I like picking my own games and rather lose 20 dimes in doing it than win 5 dimes and just bet numbers and do not follow anything. I would get no "feel" out of that. I like the feeling of when I win betting my way and like losing also because I then go back and see what I did wrong.

Nicky for the most part I look for unders in baseball. And I book them the night before. And I'm not bragging by telling you that 7 out of 10 times that numeber is either at least a half run less by gametime or goes from a -105 to a -120 price. I can't remember many if any that have moved against me since I started focusing on unders exclusively.

With sides, I haven't noticed much movement either way with the games I've been playing.

And let me add, if I book an under the night before and it moves the other way on me then I know I'm pretty well fvcked before first pitch.

For this contest there have been several occassions where I'm not getting the number I actually booked it at the night before b/c by the time the line LT uses is out it's already moved. I got burned on one already that was 9 when I booked it but had to use 8.5 for the contest (-125 too) and the total ended up at 9.

Agree. MB is easily the best Book for US players. Might be the best Book overall with the possible exception of Pinnacle (miss them badly).

Only way is to pick winners. Look at me. I hit the Twins on -1.5 +226, Marlins +134 and I have a pending bet on Mets +195. Sure I could have shopped around, look for steam, call Nicky and spend the last 24 hrs researching for the best ever line to save 5 pennies of juice. What a douchebag am I? Instead I chose to pick these winners in 2 minutes of research and having the whole day to enjoy. Wake up people! This is gambling! If you don't have the guts and the knowledge to pick winners it doesn't mind what line you get! Noone ever lost money by picking winners every day. Noone!

you dont have to go back and see what you did wrong.. i can tell you right now without even looking.. it's called.........-110.. or just simply not getting any edge on the line.. jj, if you lose money.... it will not make any diff even if you bet opposite of every game you had when you lost money, the result will always be the same.. YOU WILL LOSE.. it's not that your picks lose, it's that no matter what side you take, with the -110 and no edges, YOU WILL LOSE ANYWAYS.. so it's nothing to do with your picks.

jello,

if your #'s are moving 7 out of 10 times your way and unders are moving half run your way, then that explains everything why you are winning... it's because you still are beating the close, and that is all that counts.. it dont matter how you do it, as long as you do it..

I get what you are saying Nicky. It's just a disagreement over how to do it. I do it by putting in time and effort trying to hunt out 1 or maybe 2 games a day that I find an advantage over the number. It is about handicapping for a pitcher's duel.... based on a myriad of indicators I look for. I don't bet anywhere near enough to influence lines, but I think I'm doing what the people who are moving the lines are doing - finding a line that's beatable through handicapping. You are on the back end of that and reaping the benefit of the hard work by handicappers. What annoys me is when you look down your nose at handicappers for what we do. Without guys like me, you wouldn't have the steam to chase.

Read that and the style it's written in and tell me Onthewant doesn't have a Nicky Santoro coaster set and pillow cases.

Scary stuff.

I say Nicky has access to his password with permission. He can have it once a week instead of the typical blowjob and facial he gets from onner.

oh be quiet paver.. let willie bee track the IP's and see if onner's post was made from montreal. if it was, i'll give you 3k.. if not, then you have to admit to everyone here that you're a fag..

mikey, i've been training onner to be a good gambler.. maybe his style is rubbing off.. it's a good sign. it means he is paying attention.. i like it.. he's a good student.. i even heard him say "boys" in that post, and i have never heard him say boys before.

Now that I'm thinking about it here is what happened:

Nicky wrote the first post. Then he PM'd it to onner. Then onner posted it as is.

How original!

People need to realize that there is no such thing as "handicapping"...

Nicky was right all long, do you honestly think you can figure out an edge based on 1-2 hrs of "handicapping" some numbers/stats online?

You are basically saying that odds-makers are morons and you can do a better job than them, I highly doubt that.

You gotta realize that with -110 and even -105 juice, you can never win by "picking winners", you have to get a mathematical edge, period.

Dont get me wrong though...

For smaller sports leagues its very possible to get an edge on oddsmakers. Mainly because they dont put as much research/time into the lines. But if your trying to beat NBA/NHL/NFL/NCAAB/NCAAF/MLB by just "picking winners" you will probably lose.
