I'm 100% certain that Nadal had to be injured to lose this bad to a guy like Soderling at a place that Nadal owns. Well if Roger is ever going to win this thing, this is it. I really think Fernando Gonzalez might be the guy who benefits the most here. I thought he might make the semis. Has to beat Murray first, but if he does - he has a real shot. Wow.

if you watched the match you could easily see he wasn't injured, he played an opponent who played the match of his life and he was off. it was the perfect storm. no injury though.

not weird if you follow every major nadal match like i do. he never has a lot of unforced errors, and forces his opponents into many. soderling was going for a lot of shots so had tons of errors, also had over 60 winners i think, nadal had low 30s in winners. the most telling stat was that nadal only broke twice, but was broken 5 times. nadal is a master at returning serve but could not solve soderling's serve today. also, soderling scored 27 of 35 approaches to net. the combination of strong serving which was paced and well placed, combined with high risk tennis of taking chances and coming to net, gave soderling the win. dont forget that in wimbledon 07 he took nadal to 5 sets and nadal took fed to 5 sets that yrs final so soderlng has given a strong nadal in 07 a run for his money.
