All touts are losers and belong in jail.
No one would sell picks if the picks were so good

No offense intended towards anyone but I don't pay attention to any forum cappers. If I did, the last guys I would look at would be touts. They are focused on sales and marketing. I would want guys who are focused on the games.
If Tacomax ever started posting picks I would pay attention. He is a respected poster.

If you're looking to make $$$. Just fade my picks on beat the prick. I give them away for free
Check out the season standings. I thought I was bad I didn't realize I'm in 1st place (inverted)

Keep it up for the $500 last place prize!
I'm in the same boat though with the prick contest. I actually did the Magic 8 Ball route this week. heh

I believe poster Wassymac was tracking their record for a week or two. The results were pretty one sided, in the red.

I had no idea there was a "booby" prize. Now I have no idea what to do. How on Earth do you try to lose picks on purpose?

I doubt it. It's not mentioned in the rules.

OK I'm not one to toot my own horn but.........
Since I found out there was actually a prize for last place I tried to lose all my picks this week. (I was trying to win the 1st 6 weeks) Did anyone actually fade my picks as I suggested?
Looks like I'll have a nice little lead going into next week.

I've kind of enjoyed some of the write ups. I like to see what angle they are baseing their pick on. I dropped La Tech from my card in week one after reading about their D from one of the touts.
A few show they have no real angle but most have some good info.

I respect Phil Steele for college, and to a lesser extent Marc Lawrence for NFL. I don't follow their picks, though.
I used to be blindly against touts, assuming that they were failed gamblers who turned to selling picks (betraying 'tha brotherhood'), but have adjusted my opinion somewhat.
We gamble for money. That's the bottom line. So if you knew that people would make a profit from your picks, because you make a profit from them (!), selling picks would be a viable service. Of course, the typical tout doesn't really know his business and overcharges for his 'guaranteed' picks. But that doesn't mean that the principle (of selling picks) sucks. What would be wrong with 100 clients at $50 per month for all picks that month? That's 5K per month extra in you pocket for work you already do anyway.
Not my cup of tea, but I can see why some would go that route. I'd be more interested in being part of a legendary 'Computer Group'. Hopeless romantic.

How do you guys define a tout?
Is it anyone that sells picks, or someone that markets/advertises heavily their service, but may not actually be a very good handicapper.
I'm really only very familiar with one handicapper that sells picks, and he is very good, and I've done very well following his picks. But, his marketing as far as I can see is no-existant. I assume his results produce many referals. But, I'm interested in what other people think in general.
Is there a difference between a tout and a soild handicapper that sells picks?

Marc Lawrence made the following statement in discussing one of his picks today:
"The Saints are 5-1 the last six seasons in Game 6"
Enough said.

The saddest thing is there really are people who will read that and be convinced it is worth risking the rent money over.
