Default What does it mean to privatize?

So public companies can not cater to US but private can? Why is that?

"Sportingbet Plc, the parent company of Sportsbook.com, also released a statement today saying that it would look to sell its US-focused brands."

So does this mean Sportsbook.com is trying to privatize?

By "privatizing" they can take all elements of the operation offshore and they are not forced to make certain public disclosures of their operating procedures. In reality, it allows members of the board to wash their hands of any perceptions of illicit activities.

privatizing for some companies is a nice way of saying they are going to rip you off because they have to answer to less people...

It's not strictly a privatization which is generally when the majority shareholder buys all the publically available stock and moves the company as a whole into private ownership. What they appear to be doing is to selling their US-facing assets which would bring in some $ and allow them to concentrate the Sportingbet brand on non-US countries.
