Default Red Wings are ready to roll...

Boys, no joke, this song plays when Ozzie leads the boys onto the ice at the start of the game, gives me a chub every time. Nothing is like Detroit during the NHL playoffs, nothing.

Pitt 4-2

They have too much fire power and are much better from net to net especially between the blue lines.

I hope the Pens can make this good..... Detroit is the best sports franchise of the last decade or two....

does that make them a "public" team at all? or does hockey's lack of a following like football kind of cancel that out?

JJ,
I really think you're confused when it comes to hockey. Why don't you take me up on my offer?

If I decide to visit NJ in Nov would you like to check out a Devils game? I'd like to see how good you know the players and the game. I'm serious!!!

If you make it out there be sure to hit your old buddy Deuce up before. I would love to join and see this mockery of Gold's perspective on pucks. Is he serious? More talent between the blue lines? This guy watching the same games? Guy knows nothing about pucks. Needs to stick to minks, glory holes, and 2 dime rugs.

Stop

Wings are the team to beat, no doubt.

While Pittsburgh may have improved I don't believe it will be enough to stop the Wings from repeating as champs.

This is what caught my attention Deuce. I seriously don't think he understands the game or "personnel".

Pitt has much quicker skaters, sure their defensemen are loose and take chances but you can do that against a team like Detroit because they are "not a quick strike team".

Look for games to go over for the most part

Come Nov and we will go, I heard arena is very nice

Detroit is the definition of a quick strike team, they are the best transition team in the NHL.

Good news for Red Wings fans: Nicklas Lidstrom, Pavel Datsyuk and Kris Draper all took the ice with their teammates for today’s practice.

Lidstrom has missed the last two games with what is believed to be a groin injury. This is his first practice since skating last Saturday in Chicago.
Datsyuk hasn’t played since Game 2 against Chicago, when he hurt his foot blocking a shot.

Draper has been out the last two games because of a pulled groin.

Defenseman Jonathan Ericsson is not out on the ice. He underwent an appendectomy Wednesday, and the Wings expect him to be ready for tomorrow's Game 1 of the finals against Pittsburgh.

At this point, it's pretty much certain Lidstrom will attempt to play tomorrow. Datsyuk, when I spoke to him earlier this week, said swelling had gone down in his foot, and he was finally able to put it into a boot again. He said X-rays show no fracture, and that the injury was made worse because the puck hit the exact same area where he blocked a shot in the Anaheim series.

It's hard to overstate how important it is for the Wings especially to get Lidstrom back. The Wings need him (and partner Brian Rafalski) to use against Sidney Crosby's line, leaving Brad Stuart and Niklas Kronwall to put out against Evgeni Malkin's line.

Please check back here later today for further updates.

Free Press sports writer Shawn Windsor will live-blog Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals on Saturday night at freep.com/sports. Stop by to follow along or discuss the game with Shawn and other fans.

detroit isn't a quick strike team? im a blackhawks fan and hate the wings more than any team in all of sports but they are by far the best team in the nhl...they are on a whole different level compared to the rest. they can flip the switch and turn it on anytime they want..i believe that would be a quick strike team.

Leave it alone Capper. I will be in NJ in November to straighten JJ out when it comes to hockey. I think JJ will appreciate my knowledge.

Agreed, the thing I hate about Crosby and the reason I don't like the kid all together is the fact he knows he is the face of the NHL and should be the next Wayne, he acts like it. He thinks the refs should bow to him, suck him off, he should get every single call, flails his arms in the air when the ref makes a call, pisses and moans about it all the time. Kid needs to stfu and start performing.

Keep in mind fellas that the weight of the hockey world was placed directly on Crosby's shoulders when Gretzky said that the one person to break his records would be Crosby. The kid handles himself very, very well for a guy who is just 21. He knows what to say and what not to say. I think he and Iginla are the best spokespersons for the league. Crosby has been filling rinks since he was 12 years old. When he played midget as a 14 year old here in Halifax it was sold out.

Anyways if you want to know more check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sidney_Crosby

No reason to hate Crosby or make dumb statement like he sucks. He may be a little yappy, but he will grow out if it.

I still wouldn't dare trade Zetterberg and Datsyuk for Malkin, Crosby. No way.
