Default Jordan admits gambling was 'stupid'

    Associated Press

NEW YORK -- Michael Jordan admits being "stupid" in his gambling, but never jeopardized his livelihood or his family, he told CBS' "60 Minutes" in an interview to be broadcast Sunday.

Do Michael Jordan's gambling issues tarnish his legacy?
    Yes
    No

Jordan, who led the Chicago Bulls to six NBA titles in the 1990s, said his gambling is related to his fierce competitiveness. But he realized when he stepped over the line.

"Yeah, I've gotten myself into [gambling] situations where I would not walk away and I've pushed the envelope," Jordan said in the interview.

"It's very embarrassing ... one of the things you totally regret. So you look at yourself in the mirror and say, 'I was stupid.' "

Jordan also discusses his love of basketball, the murder of his father and his pursuit of privacy. He also addressed critics who expected him to be more political and outspoken.

"It's heavy duty to try to do everything and please everybody," he said. "My job was to go out there and play the game of basketball as best I can."

Jordan has a new book titled "Driven from Within."

there still rumors out there that his gambling was the reason he left basketball and started playing baseball. some people speculate that he was pulling a pete rose and david stern suspended him.

I like gambling, but craps is the only table game I do well at. Lets just say the other games cost of learning was high.
Sportsbetting is in a league of its own. I like it a lot better and is more enjoyable, especially when you got it locked.

anyone with any commen sense knows it had to have had something to do with it, thats why he left the league, it was first to be with his kids yea right, then to play baseball, yea right, stern suspened him, but he couldnt ever say that. Stern could never suspend the man who just won 3 championships in a row, so it was under the table

Agree. If there was anything to that at all reporters would have been all over it. Obviously the guy has had gambling problems, but anything connecting those to his father's murder is quite a stretch IMO.

Not saying it doesn't still happen, but that era was long time ago. Today and even ten years ago, too many reporters want to make a name for themselves to pass up stories like that. JMO

    It's about his freaking book...

Squandering millions is not enough these days, you have to make MORE so you can squander that too...

What a pitiful existence, I truly feel sorry for losers like MJ.

The greater you are in public perception, the bigger loser you are if you can't appreciate it...

If MJ's gambling on basketball wasnt public, Stern would NEVER have suspended him. He only would have done so if his hand was forced. That is the dumbest conspiracy theory ever.

I heard that MJ wanted 100 million from the league and told them he would leave the game if he didnt get it. He also told them that the price would double each year he was gone. Stern eventually had to pay him 400 million to come back. True story.
