True, but if I were to bet $2,000 on a game, I'd not want it to be a do or die bet.

I started off with 1k bankroll in college, slowly built it up over the years. Knowing that it's supplemental income and not primary income is important, prevents you from going on tilt.

I assume that this thread is largely addressed to me. Although with all of the 19/20 year olds posting lately, 25 really isn't that young is it?

Anyway, it is easy to gamble as a student, easier than you think. In my case, I got paid during my undergrad by my school just to keep a certain GPA and maintain my scholarships. I also worked. Essentially, every cent I made working when into a savings account. The money from UT more than covered expenses and whatever else I wanted, food, beer, and that is saying something b/c I usually had a girlfriend and we went on trips too much.

If you can't get scholarships like that, there are always loans. Northwestern was basically going to pay my education from the loans and then ship another 15K or so to my bank account for living expenses, a computer, healthcare (since I opted out of theirs) and whatever else I would need. I declined that portion of the loan as I do not need it right now with the huge runs I've been on lately.

If I were in a hole, I might consider taking that 15K and just gambling with it. It'd certainly be an option, none of it has to be paid back for 3 years.

I don't believe for a second that kids in here are betting 5k plus a game.

In my business, I've gotten the opportunity to know lots of wealthy, successful people. I can't think of a single one of them who would allow their college-aged kids to be so careless with their money. That's simply not a model a successful person would follow.

That's why they're wealthy. They don't let their idiot sons have access to thousands of their hard earned dollars to piss away on a football game.

A fool and his money are soon parted.

Let's make one thing clear... my parents don't know I gamble. I was out in Vegas for a family trip and I acted confused putting down a $20 bet for the Reds.

Some things you need to hide from your family.

I wasn't including you in that group.
Even though you're young, you seem to have your head on too straight to be that foolish.

I think you'll do well. Work hard, and keep your enthusiasm level up. It's infectious.

Im 22 I work my tail off to have fun betting sports. I throw around a few bucks here and there during the summer but I just save up for College Basketball Season when I up my game. Unlike most people on this forum I only bet College Basketball consistently.

    85% College Basketball
    15% MLB,NFL,CFB,UFC

Unless the World Cup is going on then Im playing Korea all the time

I too was exclusively college basketball for all of 2011 and 2012, until I got back to Las Vegas from spending the summer in Texas a few weeks ago, and started to bet on MLB. Haven't done too well in MLB, so I probably should have stuck to college hoops only. But I am going to diversify and add WNBA and College Football to my portfolio. Will still stay away from NBA and NFL and NHL though.

But you are right, college hoops is where all the money is.
