Default Quote of the Day!! What a joke!!

Jim Leach, a Republican from Iowa who piloted the measure through Congress, said online betting was like injecting drugs without needle marks, and quoted an Illinois professor's quip that "you just click the mouse and lose your house".

Wow, last time I checked my house was still there and the mortgage check was in the mail. Give me a frickin' break!!

you can also click your mouse and pay for your house too...

But whatever, I would ask him why the admendment to ban all online gambling in USA didn't pass when the house passed their orginal bill... I guess he, and his fellow republicans, don't have a problem with people losing their house on horse racing or the lottery huh?

Hmmm, I click my mouse and it pays for 6 houses in 3 different countries. I guess he didn't use that one because it's not quite as poetic.

Reminds me of following from Two For the Money:

Walter Abrams: This is dangerous territory we're getting into. You understand that. But I'm gonna bump you. Now talk to me about Monday night because everyone, and I mean everyone, is gonna double down after the hole you put 'em in.
    Brandon Lang: Monday night's fine.
Walter Abrams: You bet your mother's house on it?
Brandon Lang: I don't bet, Walter.
    Walter Abrams: If you did?
Brandon Lang: I like the pick, Walter.
Walter Abrams: On your mother's house or not?
Brandon Lang: With my mother in it.

That’s an interesting analogy by the ‘respected’ Republican from Iowa. Of course, he probably became such a specialist of this type of hedonism from his many years of snorting his preferred favor (instead of injecting), whilst masturbating to kiddie porn.

Meanwhile, Leach fully supports the casinos in Iowa. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Anyone who votes for a GOP incumbent this fall is a numbnuts.

The Rep is actually right, online gambling has destroyed many lives and it is just too easy to lose money.

    Alcohol has destroyed many lives.

    Guns have destroyed many lives.

Sex -the extra-marital kind - has destroyed many marriages.

    And so on.

The point is that it is not up to the government to tell us how to live our lives. That is not its role. People can choose to go to churches for that type of 'guidance', but that is voluntary. A government enforcing its own morals on the people is way out of line.

I'm sure his views would change if the government could tax online gaming.

I agree with you guys 100%, except one thing.

Politics has nothing to do with ethics, morals, right & wrong. It's all about votes. Sure, politicians may appear to be moralizing or debating, but in reality they are just posturing in a way which gives them the most votes or other political leverage. That's why politicians talk out of both sides of their mouth. Most voters are too stupid to know better, much less care. The ones that do care are fanatics and/or lunatics such as those that feed off Rush Limbaugh. Rush could say virtually anything, and his fanbase would still adore him. Politics isn't about truth or justice, that's for the courts to decide.
