Default O.T Car Experts Needed in here.. HELP!!!

O.K here is what happened hopefully you can help me understand what might be wrong with my car..

Notes on car: 99 Mitsubishi Eclipse Automatic Transmission 90k miles I have owned automobile for about 3 years..

    First thing-

While driving my oil light came on for a brief moment and then went away. Soon after I notice the car running pretty slow and appearing like it is stuck on 2nd gear or something, I also notice my speedometer is not working at all stuck on zero. At this time I was about 15 mins away and all I wanted to do was get my car home so I can avoid any need for towing assistance but I had my friend Akash in the car who lives about another 5 mins away. So I decide screw it I'll drop him off and then hopefully make it home.. After about 4 mins of driving feeling like I am stuck on 2nd gear the CHECK ENGINE SOON light comes on.. I then proceed to drive and eventually drop off my buddy and make it home luckily..

    Long story short-

Oil light came on for quick second, then car felt like it was stuck on second gear driving extremely sluggish,4 mins later CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON drove car for about 15 mins with light on.. HELP

Any advice or help is extremely appreciated.. What do you think is wrong with the car? I parked the car right in front of where I live and decided to take care of this tomorrow when daylight arrives.. Hopefully someone can help thanks!!!!

This is motoring 101, but did you check the oil when the light initially came on?

I haven't checked the oil yet where I parked it is very inconvient so I decided to wait til the morning.. Please taco I am having a horrible day I don't need any mean shit.. Thanks...

I'm not giving you shit, I'm was being serious. I'm really a nice guy.

If the oil light comes on, you've got problems and you need to stop the car, check the oil and fill with oil if need be. If you don't do this then it can fcuk up the whole car, hence the reason why the engine light came on.

Get some oil, fill it up and take it to the garage the next opportunity you get. Warning lights should always be adhered to. Driving the car with no oil is a bad move, but there's still a chance you might get away with it - but don't think of driving it again, even if it's just to the garage, without filling the oil.

I talked to my dad on the phone and he said something extremely similar to what you said. You might be right about the oil because last time I got an oil change, they mentioned I had a small leak. And I will admit I haven't checked the oil for about 45 days.. Damn.. I am hoping it is not the transmission..

    Thanks taco. Appreciate it...

If the oil light went out, you are probably not in a no oil-pressure situation (but absolutely check it before attempting to drive again). It could be many things and you are going to have to have a diagnostic. The fact that the speedo went to zero makes me think some sort of bad sensor or bad computer either of which will make the car run REALLY rough or not at all.

By the way, some transmissions have a 'limp mode' that they can go into when they get confused. The idea being that the tranny isn't getting the information needed to run properly and it goes into a kind of 'safe mode' that allowes the vehicle to be 'limped' to a safe location. Your description could fit this.

I'm really grasping at straws, here, but if you have oil and you're not hearing any damaging, metal on metal, sounds, it's probably worth the gamble to drive it to a shop and save on towing.

I also have the "check the engine" light on too on my 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse. It's 5 speed transmission.

No problems with the car and I think it might be some BS so I can take it to car dealer to have the light turn off for $400?

I used to have the "check engine soon" light come on all the time in my 1998 Acura Integra. someone taught me how to turn it off right under the driving wheel. Wonder if this is the same Shit for Mitsubishi?

Thanks for youre help, I checked the oil and the dipstick was completely dry, so I added 2 QTRs. I also checked the Transmission fluid and that was low too but not that low.. I started the car after about 30 mins and the engine light still went on.. So I guess I am going to have to take it a mechanic.. With what I told you guys what do you think it was?? Thanks in advance..

O.K guys I just talked to the mechanic that ran the diagnostic and he says it is either one of two things..

Either the transmission sensor needs to be replaced I think that is what he said this is So.Cal no one speaks very good english down here or my entire transmission needs to be rebuilt or replaced

    The computer mentioned a code - PO-700

He said I am going to need to fix the sensor anyway and there is a 60% chance that is the problem. What do you guys think? I got the car back and am going to than about it before I decide what to do.. He wants to charge me $250 to fix the sensor and he says it takes 2.5-3 hours.

Alright guys any help would be appreciated.. Thanks in advanced..

    Get a stick shift.

I can get you a good mechanic in LA (in Valley), if I can find the address. Been a few years.
    Won't rip you off.
