3-QUESTION
SBR TRIVIA WINNER 06/17/2013
Holland will not field the same team as in the first two games.
They're having a problem with conditioning this tournament. They may have trained too hard in preparation, and now everybody is tired (not kidding). The Dutch model of quick one-touch passing only works if the lines are close (offense, midfield, defense). In the first two games they kept their form for about 20-25 minutes; then gradually the distances between the lines increased, and by the hour mark the team was just dead tired and unrecognizable. So if you can bet the game live, and want to get a read on how tired Holland is, just keep on eye on the increasing distances between the lines. It's also reported that the recovery between games has been slowed down by the poorly prepared hotel situation. They play all three games in the same city in the Ukraine. But, incredibly, their hotel is 1000 kilometers away in Poland.
Can they beat Portugal? Absolutely. Ronaldo has been in the same boat as Van Persie (who may not start today). Just not sharp. But the question is if Holland can keep pressing for very long. Once they lose that capacity, they're done. We saw something similar with Russia, where Arshevin played very strong first halves, only to hide away in the second halves because he was out of gas.
