Default Here is a very cool trend

If you take the best bets in the beat the prick contest and look at which ones got the most votes for the week you would be 5-0 if you would of bet on them

looks like the sbr posters know what there doing

    Week 1
    13 votes
    Bears -3.5 win
    Bengals +3 win

    Week 2
    9 votes each
    Saints -2 win
    Giants +3 win
    Texas -31 win

ill let everyone know about this week also

Too small a sample size, but nice start. Will you be keeping track throughout the entire BTP contest?

I think owned does make a good point here. I think we need a bigger consensus type number to work with in order to develope a real solid trend. This is a good peice of info to know though... Thanks for sharing it sjelveh

This information is easy to come by if you look at the week's "Pick Report". (Click the "Pick Report" link on the top or bottom right corners of the pick form or scoreboard table).

From there you can group by either player or team and come up all with all sorts of miniscule sample size statistics.

Good stuff sjelveh. Nice to see our guys making some coin. The books have been whooped so far this season.

Good find, sjelveh. Keep us posted, interesting stuff.

I've had a lot of good luck following some of the posters' picks here on SBR. Just be careful who you're following, and when.

To be honest I really thought it was going to be the exact opposite 0-5 instead of 5-0, but I really believe there can be some solid research done on this contest there are a lot of good handicappers on this site some that post their insight for others to see and some just here for the contest. Since am taking a month off betting (at least that what I tell myself) am going to do a lot of game watching but also study this contest to see if maybe I can come up with something.

I might as well too. I figure if I wager on it it’s more of me doing scientific research then betting because I promised myself I wasn’t going to bet for a month, because of last weeks debacles losing 5 games in the final 2min and 3 of them in the final 45 sec, but this is definitely scientific research not gambling, so am not breaking my promise to myself, because I can stop gambling whenever I want.

I suspected that trend. It's good to see some scientific evidence.

Did you take this thread into account or is it in the next batch of data you have to analyze?

Actually that post came too late to include in the scientific sample. Oddly enough, that post would have skewed the data since it was of quality in a number of ways - short, concise and factually correct. Obviously I'm ignoring the fact that the content itself could have been posted by a shaved chimp, but you can't have everything.

You know that speech that ESPN always plays of Jimmy Valvano. He says you should do 3 things every day. Laugh, cry and think.

All I have to do is go to this forum everyday and I got the laugh part down real easy.

I really like the Vikings today so I might lay off. I don’t think Grossman is as good as people are starting to give him credit for and I think brad Johnson is the kind of qb that could give the bears d trouble. He is just going to try to manage the game pick up a first down or 2 and punt and make the bears offense beat him. I think rex comes back to reality today guys and the vikes win by a fg in a close game.

Good analysis in hindsight. Without that late Bears TD your analysis is spot on.

I'm extremely fortunate to have bought Bears down to -3, not to mention my BTP pick was Bears -3 as well. I'll take a push after a miraculous late comeback any day of the week.

You bet the -3? What was the vig? I saw -4 only yesterday morning and the -3.5's were loaded with vig already.

This is based on the beat the prick contest so you would have to get it at the same line as the contest.

This is the exact reason why I would NOT follow this trend. The books will inevitably correct, and I can only hope as much for this board's posters.
