yea, they get treated better when they win and they know they went real fast.. So you can see they trot and get cocky. So they know they did good. For them is please or not please. They think, I pleased or they think, I bad. I not please. Bad me.

I think every animal that is trained to do something knows when he did it right because he gets the reward. Horses are trained to win so my guess is that they know 99% when this happens. Beside the rewards, I also believe that trained animals sense when you are mad at them, pleased or extatic...

To those who say no because horses are animals, they forget that humans are animals too.

Watch the replays of the Affirmed/Alydar battles and see if they look like they understood the outcome.

When Secretariat died, his heart was found to be 4 times the size of a normal horse's heart. He got it.

As mentioned earlier, the great ones do.

Of course they do. Horses are very sensitive. I would say more so than those human beings that are themselves so dulled that they can't imagine horses to be sensitive. In all of Nature, the greatest degree of insensitivity is undoubtedly found among the human race. But also the greatest degree of sensitivity. Not one other species may be as divided along those lines.

In a rooster fight the chickens know how to use the blades on their claws. They also know who won and who lost.

The Affirmed/Alydar battles during the Triple Crown run are probably the best examples. There were a couple times Alydar came zooming up, looking like he would pass Affirmed, but Affirmed would catch that glimpse in the peripheral vision and push a little harder and did that each time Alydar tried to make a move. There was no way Affirmed was gonna let him get that nose ahead of his. It sure looked like he knew he was in a race and wanted to win, but I guess it could also have been something more primal, about being the Alpha of the group. Affirmed always wanted to be the Alpha of every group and exerted his dominance to show it.

It's been proven they know. There was a 60's documentary called Mr. Ed. Check it out.
