No I think in Arena they need someone in motion before the snap and the linebackers can only stay in a small place.

I'm just fukking with you I know you are talking about the Aussie Football League.

Rugby League and Union are played on a rectangular field and involve promoting by running the ball over the opponents goal line where it needs to be touched down to score.

    Austra
lian Rules football is played on an oval shaped field and involves kicking the ball through a set of sticks (goals) in order to score.

    A
ll three sports are played with different shape and sized footballs.

Heaps more differences but that is a starter.

Channel hopping between the same two games. Lots of similarities between American Football and Rugby League (NRL). While soccer and AFL share the kicking and scoring goals things - they are very different games with different skills.

    Who you got coach?

    I'm on Melbourne+6.5 and +6, and on Geelong-14 and -14.5.

In comparison, more of us disagree with you.

    NRL 2012 average match attendance = 16,748

    AFL 2012 average match attendance = 32,506

AFL is more popular with more people who are fans and more loyal. Pretty obvious even without facts, you just have to look.

We call AFL guys scratchers because they live to scratch opposing players

Rugby League smashes you on TV though.

In your own AFL loving The Australian Newspaper too!

AFL fans are so full of their own shit. You like your game for your reasons - I like my game for my reasons - lets leave it at that and not turn this into a code pissing contest, which I resisted the urge to do in my very first post in this thread.

Both codes are awesome. And you Aussies and Kiwis should be proud. I've mentioned on here before that when a friend first made me watch cricket and an AFL match when I was still living in Norway and just found out I had to move to Oz I was messed up. First time I tried to play cricket I swung the bat like in baseball and the AFL whistle blowing = continue play (and not stop like in N American sports) really hurt my ears and small brain trying to figure it out. Why did they keep running? Whistle means you stop play Throw in rugby - union or league - and my mind was blown. Those guys with their cauliflower ears are true machines. Where is the padding down here???? There are pubs around the world that have people gathering to watch even the junky matches we wouldn't bother turning our tvs on for. Says a lot about both sports considering the population down here between the two.

TV ratings would disagree with you brettles.

NRL wins that hands down. Sydney people just couldn't give a **** about making it to a live game. Rather watch it at home or at the pub. Melbournians have nothing else to do except go to the caffe so they go to the football that has every stadium within 15 from where they live most prob.

If NRL tv ratings were higher, wouldn't they already have there own dedicated TV channel that a cable company would have already paid billions to have the rights for? Just so you know, that AFL has already.

As for sydney people not making it to a live game, it's because they are too fukken fat to get off the seat at home.

If? I gave you the article from a newspaper that takes every opportunity it can to bash Rugby League (see any article by that douchebag Patrick Smith). The NRL TV deal has been handicapped for years by being forced to negotiate with a 50% stakeholder. With the departure of David Gallop during the week (because of TV negotiations) the NRL will finally be in a position to recoup the full value of its TV product. I would expect that the price will be on par with the AFL deal or better. Part of the reason that Foxtel is sucking up to Victorians is that they have dramatically lower subscriber numbers in the Southern states.

AFL claims that it is a national game because its popular in a bunch of shithole backward states that were used for nuclear testing. If you compare the population of Queensland, NSW and the ACT (where NRL is more popular than AFL) you will find a population of around 12 million people. When you combine the rest of Australia where AFL would be more popular - you have a population of around 10 million people.

I believe that the sports are comparable in popularity.

Here's something to think about, this years ratings according to http://www.talkingfooty.com/tv_ratings_2012.php

AFL remains the code with the highest total number of viewers with 36.6% (estimated at 6.6 million) who will watch “Always” or “Occasionally.”

AFL has more teams, both have about the same number of rounds?

  35. #35

Don't worry, AFL will just keep taking big name NRL players until NRL becomes vanilla.
