Any input appreciated. Thinking of making a move in the near future. Would prefer somewhere close to border, not entrenched deep in the country.

Are you saying that you need to live near casinos? What are criteria you think makes a place good for a gambler to live. If you are coming from states, good luck on getting a ****.

don't tell me your thinking about moving to Canada just to bet tennis![]()

I think it's well worth it. As long as I don't move into a totally dry and clean area, I'm sure I can find things to keep me busy![]()

Without a more thorough answer to Laker's question, it is hard to give a comprehensive answer.
In general, I would say: the Greater Toronto Area. Toronto is just a great city. You can gamble on-line (like you can anywhere in Canada) - and casinos and horse racetracks are accessible.
But if you have any kind of a balanced life and interests outside gambling, Toronto is the place to be. There are museums, theatre, the film festival, sports (to watch and participate in), music, the lake, restaurants, WOMEN - everything you could want. And if you like the great outdoors, you don't have to go far to find some beautiful spots.
It's a great place for this gambler.
As a recovering addict/alcoholic who grew up here I can assure you that (a) it's not a dry and clean area and (b) there is a thriving recovery community.
Now if you REALLY like the great outdoors and that's a MAJOR priority, you would probably be better off out west in the Rockies. Banff or Whistler or something like that. You can still gamble on-line but you would obviously not be as close to as many casinos and racetracks as in Toronto.
If being close to the border is the major factor, Windsor is probably a good choice. It's right beside Detroit, there's a casino, you can gamble on-line of course. But you miss out on all the stuff Toronto has to offer (it's a 3-4 hour drive I would guess).
Mind you Toronto is much closer to the border at Buffalo. (Couple hours??)

Thanks Mudcat. Thinking about moving to Seattle area, since I know people in Vancouver and could probably rent out a room or something for half the week and just look at it like a 2 hour commute to work or something. I could have them sign up for a Betfair account for me, but I doubt they'd be willing to sit in front of the screen all day trading/hedging all day for me as I direct them over messenger![]()
I'd say about 70% of my dog bets, at one point during their matches, are chalky favorites, so that right there would cut away those losses by either hedging and getting a freeroll instead of watching them blow set leads and breaks in the last sets. Also seems to be a high overreaction on Betfair, a guy goes up a set and he turns into a 1.2 to 1.4 favorite.

BTW, casinos are irrelevant. I'm done with table games. Great outdoors are not a big issue unless I've got something on my tongue. I do prefer city life to quiet small town life though. I'll have to figure out things this month, picking up and moving can't be a rash decision.

If you are considering the US NW, Canada BC area. Consider Victoria, BC. Can get there about as quick as Vancouver. I think Victoria is my favorite city in Canada and rents are cheaper than Vancouver in general. If you want the bigger urban experience, Toronto or Vancouver are good.

Well, I have friends in Burnaby and in Vancouver, so it's not a necessity I live there, I'll look into Victoria. Got to check everything for certain though.

Why don't you just set up a computer at their place in Vancouver, pay the $50 per month for high-speed internet access so that it's connected to the internet, and connect to that computer from your own computer over the internet using Remote Desktop or VNC ?Originally Posted by OWNED
That way, you could live wherever you want to live, accessing the computer in Vancouver by internet to make your bets. The only thing your friends in Vancouver would really have to do is make sure that they turn your computer back on in the event of a power outage or if your computer crashes.

I myself have never been to Vancouver or Victoria - goddamn, this is a big country - but I have heard great things about both cities.
The whole rest of the country hates Toronto of course.

Quebec City has a lot of personality. If I was a more adventurous sort of a guy, I might like to go live there and try that whole experience. The Frenchness and the high taxes would be issues for many people but they wouldn't bother me.
However I'm very settled where I am right now.
I haven't been to Halifax for about 10 years but I loved it. I should stop in for a Donair sometime.

Halifax, you might have saved me a relocation. I'm not much of a computer wiz, so if you don't mind, I'll send you a PM with some questions later today.Originally Posted by Halifax
