I think Russia did not immediately qualify w/ their win over the Serbs b/c they lost a set... but then when Japan played and lost sets to horrendous Cuba, that instantly put them in due to overall standings.

Anyways, there is the possibility of the letdown... the home court is not as significant as the letdown.

Japan was a > -500 fave vs. Korea ... and lost 3-1. Then as a > -900 fave vs. Cuba.... they almost lost in 3 sets. Now they face the best and most dominant team that has won 15 of 16 sets and are far superior to Japan ... and Russia is just a -224 fave and plus money at -1.5 sets. If Russia plays 100%, they win 3-0 sets. If a letdown, maybe 3-1 sets... 3-2 extremely unlikely.

Since the tourney is in Japan, they rigged the schedule for Japan.... putting the weakest teams first for Japan... and then finishing off the tourney w/ the strongest teams last. This would help them build pts and give them hope for qualifying... which it did as they won all their initial matches. It also inflated the lines in favor of Japan... which was disastrous vs. Korea and Cuba. And there was basically no adjustment leading into the Russia match. Plus Russia is aided by the fact that they have one more game after this one... so a dropping in their level would more likely show itself in that match.... but that will be another 3-0 win as it's against Taipei.

only 1 match out of 21 played has seen a 5th set.

also, ironically, the women are more stable in this situation than the men. w/ the men's game you could expect the dropping in level and definitely the dog upset... but w/ women in this sport and in this competition... the answer is no.

end of tourney: 7-0 w/l , 21-1 sets or 21-2 sets
