    Default SI subscription

so i ordered SI again after not getting it for years

basically cause the price is dirt cheap and I get free stuff

there is so much info on the internet is why i didn't get it for awhile

it makes good bathroom reading i guess

i get like a year for 39.95 and a free t-shirt and a free fleece nfl jacket

i'm sure the jacket and t-shirt aren't top notch but you could pay $40 for just these two things easy

plus they throw in another half year free

the point of the thread is to discuss the ratio of revenue from advertisers vs the actual money you are giving them

is it more important for them to be able to say to advertisers that they have one more reader than the actual price they sell the magazine for?

Yes. Magazines and newspapers make most of their profit off advertising and very little off subscriptions. It's critical for them to keep subscribers, which is why many mags and newspapers offer subscriptions for way off the cover prices.

There have been at least a half-dozen newspapers in the U.S. in the past year caught red-handed inflating their circulation numbers. They had to refund advertisers when caught because they weren't getting the product to the amount of people they said they were.

That mag basically has nothing in it anymore, I rather buy a health and fitness magazine or consumer reports mag.

This magazine provides nothing of need. I'd rather drop a tab and stare at the ceiling while taking a shit.

I got a 6-month subscription of SI for $20 a couple years ago, and got the free NFL long-sleeved shirt which was ok. I ended up pausing my subscription after the first NFL season and resumed it during NFL training camp the next season. The NFL preview issue is kinda nice, but most other issues are bathroom reading at best. No real depth content, and the Rick Reilly column is terrible most of the time. I cancelled my subscription after the original 6-month trial expired.

I loved SI as a kid, but stopped getting it years ago once out of college. Just no time to read it.

Only magazine I get and read is TV Guide. Really.

Does anybody get ESPN Insiders? I tried to cancel my subscription but those ***** kept asking more personal info from me. They would not cancel my subscription. Its an annual auto cc charge so I had to call my cc card co. and get a new card # to prevent those assholes from charging me. Unreal. ESPN sucks.
