Thumbs up My Connection Speed Doubling.

I just read my cox email, and had a newsletter in there from Cox. It looks like in the next few weeks they will be upgrading the top tier connection from 5MB down/768k up, to 10MB down/1MB up. With no price hike. Well not yet anyway.

Now the TV service just needs to add a few more HD channels, like ESPN2 and NFL Network. Plus the internet service needs to allow for ESPN360. Then it will be close to perfect.

Just thought I would share, I was happy as hell when I read that email. Its getting up to the speeds that other companies offer.

What is everyones connection speeds here?

I've got 3MB but they just recently started offering 5MB so I may switch (for a price) to that.

    That is great.

I have Time Warner. It is overpriced. I was thinking about switching to DSL Extreme for half has much. Does anyone have or had in the past DSL Extreme?

I have 1Mbit, but wireless, because i often travel. The biggest problem is ping/latency in hundreds of ms.

Lucky bsaatrd onlòóker, I envy you. My ISP (called "True") is 'truly' appalling. I only get 1MB up and down for the US equivalent price of around $25 per month. FWIW one of my friends in Japan tells me that he get’s a download speed of 18MB!

Is "ping/latency" debilitating for you Lucas or do you consider it just to be a minor inconvenience please?

If you have ping over 500ms and 1Mbit line, the downloading of files is quite good, but downloading webpages jpeg after jpeg is very slooooow. Much slower than 256Kbit with 20 ms ping I guess.

    Good to hear onlooker.

Inspades, DSL even extreme is generally much slower than cable, so I would likely not switch.

My provider in the UK is NTL. Current speed is 1mb download but that is going to double to 2mb in the next month for no extra charge

I currently pay around $19 a month for it but only because I haggled with them & they gave it to me for half price for 12 months

Also no restrictions on download amounts which is handy if you use Limewire
