Default If Murray Wins Today You Have To Say He Is Best Player In World

He owns Fed and now he will own Nadal if he beats him today.

On hard court at least, yes. Last year he wasn't playing at this level, so we've no idea how good he is on grass and clay (and highly unliekly he can get close to Nadal on grass imo, and zero chance on clay).

Slow ass court at Indian Wells though, which suits Nadal far more than Murray.

I believe this pretty much covers it...

Nadal wins first set 6-1.

Wind is blowing a gale...making it hard to know where the ball toss is going on the serve.Nadal has adjusted better than Murray.

hell no.

Nadal and Federer are the two best all-around tennis players in the world.

Raffa rolls Murray 6-1, 6-2...

So JJ, I think, at least for now, we can put the "Andy Murray is the best in the world" discussion on hold until he does something - like win a major...

Meaningless match, guys - more of a freakshow event than a game of tennis. 60k/hr average winds, with gusts higher, in all directions. You could see immediately in the first couple of games that he had no chance, as winners are utterly impossible in those conditions, as is serving well. It just became a game of who errored first, and that's one Nadal will always win.

I really hope Federer has not lost his will to play.

Exactly.

Andy is worthy of praise with the improvements he's made on the court and mentally, and there's no doubt in my mind he'll end up with at least one Slam under his belt, but it might not be against Fed or Nadal.

Fed cannot beat Murray

Once Murray gets more confidence against Nadal he will be number 1.

Absurd statement. Look at the history.

2005: lost to World No. 1 Roger Federer in US Open
2008: lost to Roger Federer in straight sets, 6–2, 7–5, 6–2 in US Open

He's done better than most against Federer, but he doesn't "own" Federer. No one owns Federer, including Nadal.

And there's no one Federer can't beat.

It's Federer and Nadal and everyone else and it's been this way for at least two years.

Aside from that US Open final, where Murray was clearly overawed, and the loss in Bangkok when he was 17/18yrs, he's beaten Federer the other 7 times, including 5 in a row now. Most telling is Cincinatti 2006, when Federer had his best ever season (he won absolutely everything in sight), Murray was 19 and beat him in straights.

Talk of "owning" is silly, cos their matches are close. However the head to head isn't a coincidence - Murray is a terrible matchup for Federer.

^ I agree that he tends to have the advantage much more than most other players, but jj is claiming Murray owns him and that Federer cannot beat Murray.

I think we need to focus on mocking jj.

No, there's nobody he couldn't beat...Those days are over, and he won't start favourite against Nadal or Murray againunless it's on grass. The US Open final is history now, five in a row since then and he fell apart in the final set at IW. In 2008 and three months of 09, Federer has lost 20 times, as many times as he lost in three full years of 2005-07. Players don't get any better after the age of 27. He is still bloody good but no longer invincible.

Murray had claims to no.1 rating on hardcourt if he'd won that final, but the wind made the match a joke. He's damn close to it, but his results on other surfaces mean he has a fair gap to make up before he can lay claim to being one of the best two players in the world overall. Djokovic will be behind him very soon.
