Ideas on how Reload can do the horse racing contest at the Bash in August.

Guys lets give Reload some ideas on how to do this horse racing contest in August. I think that we could put the first place winner into the National Horse Racing Championships in Las Vegas in Jan. 2013 or the Horse Racing World Series in Las Vegas also.

I am thinking we can have a 10 race contest during the 2 hour time frame at the Bash kind of like what horse racing tourney's website has on it and have it like they have. I think that is the best way to go about it here since we are on going to be limited on time.

Anyone else got some good ideas on this that could be included in this?

i think we should limit the time required to cap the races, since like you said it's a short window and will be a crap shoot anyway

there are probably only a few people that want to put more than 20 minutes of effort into this

Milwakee you have all night the night before to look at them like me and Joeyp does. I know there is limited time so I was posting some ideas on how to do this.

Great idea blues but we need to find out if they are having a poker tourney that day because thats where most of the people will be

If we choose a couple of tracks during a specific time frame, we still need about4-5 hours for the comtest

Maybe a horse racing contest on friday using saratoga and delmar? and the poker tourney on saturday.

we might have to all put up a good size entry to give away a seat to the NHC tourney in vegas because those seats are not cheap unless sbr will splurge for the seat, otherwise we can all throw in like $50 and pay top 3 places and give the money back

maybe reload can come up with something

Thanks for getting a thread going, tblues. We'll be coming up with a fairly simple format to keep it fun. As it stands now the prize fund is $500, with the top three finishers collecting dollars.

We'll identify the races by the day before in case any die-hard's want to do some capping Friday evening or during breakfast on Saturday. Otherwise, anyone arriving Saturday at our scheduled start time will also have 20-30 minutes then to work on picks.

I am figuring we will keep it to around seven races, with the final race being worth double. Probably will have just one selected horse in each race for a WP ticket.

We are looking to have the format finalized by tomorrow so any other ideas or thoughts are welcome.

Reload if it would have been for getting into the two championship contests like we did to get into the world series of poker it would even be better. That contest still sounds great but it would be even better if you got the winner into the horse racing championships. I think it would be a great idea to ask NHC if they would allow it. On top of that I think 8 races would be more suited for this because that is what most contests go. I heard the time frame is for two hours and we can easily figure 8 races for it. I was thinking since it was going to start at 11am PT which it appears like we can use Saratoga, Arlington, and the Kentucky track that runs at that time of the year. I would think it would be great if we stuck the Saratoga's biggest race that we can as the top race for the contest. You got it right in target though on making it easy like a win and place like the horse tourney's site has it. Keep up the good work Reload and I hope it will be a fun and great tourney.

Good luck with that SBR John putting a dog race in there when I was there last time they didn't even have dog racing on any of the televisions there.

I PM'd Reload earlier with my thoughts.

EmpireMaker: Are you suggesting players have to submit all their picks before the start of our first race? That sure would make it easier from the standpoint of updating results.

i see the point of having it live, but i would MUCH rather have all the picks turned in ahead of time.
having it live would be a huge advantage to the people who know what the standings look like before the last couple races.

there isn't a big enough sports/race book at the golden nugget to accomplish a live tournament logistically. unless you want 20 guys crammed in a booth...

I am leaning to picks being in ahead of time also, mike. Will make it easier to grade and we're bound to not have much time in between races anyway.

I think Reload that would be an excellent idea to have picks done ahead of time just like the site I sent over to you does it. I think you can easily go by with what they have and use that format. I think that would be fantastic. It sure would be easy to go over. I just wish that it would put one of our people into the horse racing championships as one of our people. I think it would be great to do that just like we did with the World Series of Poker.

tblues there are multiple problems to qualifying for nhc being added to the prize pool
    1) it's not until january 2013 so it's a 5 month wait
    2) requires another trip to vegas in january when some of us are busy
    3) september entry fees are only $200 and it's only $110 in april, so the nhc is affordable for anyone that wants in

i think it would be such a small amount of people willing to pony up money for a chance at a qualifying fee that they could easily afford anyway

I Think there should be a total of 8 races maybe 4 from saratoga and 4 from delmar and all the horses picked be scored by win-place only I also think all the plays must be turned in before the 1st race of the contest , this way you dont have people half way through stabbing at bombs just to try to get large payoffs to win the contest. I also think you should cap the total payoff of the win and place bets.
i want to thank reload for giving us a contest out there and was wondering if there is going to be a poker tourney like 2 years ago.

yes poker tourney but it's pros only

agree with the rest of your ideas except the cap on payoff. taking a long shot and hitting should be rewarded

Another format that could be used is like they do at the otb and tioga downs near me is that there are 10 races and you pick the winners the person with the most wins, wins the contest When there are ties, then you count the money cashed on win bets and determine the winners of 1st, 2nd and 3rd this way it actually shows how many winners you can pick
    i LIKE THIS FORMAT ALOT

    1) They have qualifiers all year long
    2) if you cant make it dont play
    3) you have to be a member of the NHC Tour and you have to win a qualifier to get in NHC you cant buy your entry

A $1,000 entry fee definitely should be in the mix. First bet you make has to be at least half your bankroll. That way you won't be taking those 50-1 longshots. Adds a whole new dimension to contests for sure.

Yes Joey I agree I think they are going to let us know on Thursday of when we can sign up for this. I sure want to go to be in this contest and the other activities for this event. It certainly would be great if we got somehow our winner into the these championships for next year. That would be awesome!
