Weekly Review Aug 21st
Bettor’s enjoyed a good week with many favorites winning, especially in baseball. Sunday alone in baseball there were 13 defined favorites which won, so with results like that bookmakers generally have a tough time of it.
Sunday was also the conclusion of the final major golf tournament, the PGA Championship. Tiger Woods played steady, consistent golf to triumph by 5 strokes. Tiger started the tournament as a red-hot +225 favorite but that didn’t deter one customer from betting him for $10,000 and the same customer even bet another $10,000 on Tiger after the completion on 36 holes at odds of +110. We had hoped Luke Donald could win, who was tied with Tiger at 14 under going into the last round but unfortunately he couldn’t sustain his good form. With all four major tournaments now completed all golf attention will now head in the direction of the Ryder Cup starting September 22nd.
NFL preseason week 2 generated much more action from our customers. By far the best game for betting action was Sunday night’s Seattle vs. Indianapolis match. The Colts opened a 3 point favorite, but we instantly received Seattle money to make the Colts a slim 1 point favorite. The Colts closed a healthy 3 ½ point favorite mainly due to the information which came available on Saturday with the Colts starters playing more time than Seattle, and Seattle missing some key defenders. Within 10 minutes, the line went from 1 to 1 ½, to 2, 2 ½ and then finally to 3 and we still were receiving calls for people to bet the Colts even through Sunday when they closed at 3 ½. Sunday night before kick off, our entire phone lines were jammed, which is great to see as everyone must be just ‘itching’ for the regular Football season to start.
Until next week,
