Default Does anyone use sports gambling as a full-time income?

I still go to my stupid office job from 8-5 and then come home and actually get to do this. I was just wondering if any of you guys did this for a living. It is definitely a dream of mine, but I think only like .001% of gamblers get to do this for a living.

I don't as I would end up living in a cardboard box if I tried.

I got laid off from my job on 6/28 and since then I've been supporting myself gambling. There are others on this forum that do as well.

If you include bonuses and middling/scalping, I suspect a lot more people than you’d think make a living at this. As far as simply handicapping and betting your own picks at –110, very few gamblers come out ahead doing that, and the ones who come out far enough ahead to make a consistent living with it long term are probably indeed about the .001% you estimated.

nope, just a hobby for me...I feel like I'd do worse with my picks if this was my only source of income...

Easiest way to go broke, I have tried it and got buried. Yes middlers and scalpers can grind out some money but it is chump change in the real world job market and too much time as the rate of return is too low.

Enjoy gambling for fun only.

Gambler, I would advise against it. Gambling can be very enjoyable, but when you do it for fun, it's not so devastating when you hit an unlucky streak. Do it for fun and use any money you win to buy those luxuries (like the HD TV) that you'd feel guilty using your regular income to buy.

I think I am like you in that I think if you put enough time and effort into handicapping, you could predict games at a high enough percentage to come out way ahead. But I just don't think the risk justifies the reward in terms of quitting your day job so that you have the time necessary to devote to capping as a primary source of income.

Do not forget about the fact that full timer is getting very asocial person... For example me: I see very few friends f2f, spend much more time than 8-5 / 5 days a week @ work, have no stable girl and my life has no order. But... I like it.

Most gamblers are anti social period.

Ask SBR the last time he went out of his house?? He is more of a businessman but it involves gambling and I would be -340 he leaves his house once every 4 months and when he sees people he just looks odd and really cannot communicate with people. It basically whacks you out like your strung out on drugs, I have been there like Johnny.

I remember a couple of years ago I was so involved in sportsbetting I did not leave my basement that I was renting for 9 months and when I did get outside my eyes had trouble adapting to the sun, it is sick and not good. I felt in a daze and really did not know how to have any conversations with people and just nodded my head with no words. It can happen to anyone here if you get in too deep. Be careful gambling is a drug.

i was boarded up in my glasshouse for 17 months. cardboard N shitt all over the windows and pizza boxes everywhere. man the reclusive spiders had a fieldday and camped out in my pad.

would have panic attacks if any light peaked thru. i never knew if it was 12 noon or 12 midnite. when i went broke i had to get a job and my eyes had serious issues with daylight. i had a doctors note that said i could wear sunglasses while at work buy my employer pink slipped me. accusations of women claiming i was ogling them hiding behind my glasses

needless to say my vision is so terrible and my sensitiviy to sun i had to move to the northwest and have not been the same ever since

You guys are freaking me out. I bet on sports for a living - part of that betting is gambling - and it is not necessary to be that out of it.

I have a girlfriend and other friends. I am involved in some weekly and monthly community service work. I keep up to date on movies, music, TV, books and all sorts of other things. I ride my bike and shoot hoops regularly.

I'm far from a social butterfly but there is a lot more to my life than just betting. If you guys are choosing to be weird hermits creatures then that's your choice, but it's not necessary.

Mudder I find it hard to beleive you have a girlfriend if you gamble full time. I do not know any girls that like gamblers. I have had chicks way back when gambling big but they were hooker types and wanted Sugar Daddy's not relationships. I would give them $200 and they would let me fuk them in my basement against a wall.

Mudder have your girlfriend make one post here to me and I want to hear how she feels.

Mudder there is no way to be a successful gambler with a chick, I know if I had one all I would want to do is bang her and watch porn and of course get into the whips, cuffs and chains.

Mudder please do not tell me you have a nice car too? No gamblers have nice cars that do it everyday. I feel like a dick driving a van from the 70's but if you play you pay.

Mudder every gambler I know has weird ways and most never go out and look sloppy and overweight. Only in the movies the gamblers look good.

Mudder from tonight until Sunday I will not leave my basement and just have food and snacks delivered. Its a way of life now being more in the dark with a pc and tv in front of me.

Mudder I swear I want to meet you so you can prove me wrong.

"Overweight" is un-neccesary. I much prefer healthy food to junk...

It's also quite possible to remain reasonably sociable whilst doing this. I rarely watch games I bet, and with the wonder of timezones, I'm free most of the morning and afternoon anyhow..

not all degenerates are overweight. some look like that john bennet ramsey murderer. you know those who starve themselves when broke and buried and would rather go without food for 3 days than have to miss having action on the gonzaga/eastern washington game

Let ´s be transparent and fair! If we want photos from bookies, let´s post here photos from gamblers!
Here are mine.
See necessary sunglasses, that I must always wear.
Btw. I am underweighted and I am tidying up only when the "hooker type" comes to visit me - so U can see it was a long time ago

Lucas is the absolute best! When I look at these pics I feel like I am back in the best city in the world; Prague. Next time I am in Prague, I'll ring you and we'll set you up with a few "hooker types".

Great post, Lucas.

Yes Iset! Although I have moved to Brno (now I live at some castle). I must say, no hooker is as good as good bet. Last time after the "hooker action" I got so big pain in my shoulders that I am rather aiming to less dangerous activity. No more experiments! Thanks BBD for the free porn link.

I am going there every 14 days for 2-3 days to my second work, it is no problem to get there in 2 or less hours, so send the message and I will come. I love every oportunity to see something else than my huge home disorder.

I don't recall my girlfriend expressing much of an opinion on my line of work one way or the other. I might as well be an accountant for all it gets discussed. She does like the tremendous flexibility I have from being self-employed though. So do I.

I am certainly not her Sugar Daddy. We both make about the same money (although I'm pulling ahead this year! )

I drive a 2006 Impala at the moment.

My weight is within one pound of being what I consider ideal for me.

I think you're confusing being a professional gambler with having a gambling addiction (or perhaps having OCD). I am gathering from some of the posts here that, for some of you, they go hand-in-hand. For me, that is not the case.

Personally, I would no more spend my spare time watching sports than I would get dressed up as a Klingon and go to Star Trek coventions every day. If that's your thing then fine, but I have a lot of other interests.

Thank you Santo, for bringing some sanity to the discussion.

This has turned into a good thread.

It seems to be the opinion that those who do this full time are groslly overweight people who sit around watching sport in their underwear.

I do this because it pays me well, gives me a flexible timetable, and lets me pursue other interests, study, and travel as I want. It's let me purchase a house in a foreign country, and I can afford business class flights back and forward as I want.

If I could earn more doing photography, or doing computer programming I'd do that instead, and probably wouldn't bet more than $1k a year in entertainment. When the profitability of this drops off, I'll change profession, until then this suits me well.

Do any of you guys wear minks? I have one but I think it is more of a northeast gambling thing than Country wide.

A pro or a compusive gambler craves action and there is not much difference. We also like the big shot image it brings and kids look up to us. Some of you guys are not the norm with gambling.

PS. I personally think it is nice that people can gamble and also live like normal 8-5 people. But I think it is exception. Every successul gambler has freedom of choice. My is: why live normal life if I can afford to try something else.
