It wasn't a very good pass if they say he was wide open, welker is 5 foot 9 and was sliding, slipping, falling down and had to turn around look up and reach just to catch it and it would of been an awesome catch.

What Hernandez drop? Only one I remember was on the very last drive. Game was dire at that point and a 10 yard catch in the middle of the field running the clock might have been worse than a drop.

Otherwise, Welker played a good game, so it;s hard to criticize, they couldn't have won without him. But, if he catches that ball, NE would have been 80%+ to win and cover. 1st down at the 18 they would have gotten at least a FG and a TD would have iced the game.

That welker drop really blew it for me. Not only did I have New England but I had two prop bets that would/could have won. Had Welker ov / 20 yard catch in game and also had Green-ellis over 47.5 total yards he needed like 3 more yards. If he catches that then most likely he gets those yards. He was "wide open" in the sense that he had time to secure the ball and take a couple steps, but the nearest defender was still going to be tackling him in 2 seconds. Brady placed it toward the sideline as that was safer (no defender in area), but it obviously got away from him.

The pass was thrown maybe a split-second early so that when Welker turned around it was already headed toward him and he had a tough read to get it just right. Still, the ball hit hands and the throw was good enough that he catches that ball 95 out of 100 times. That's why the drop was so surprising.

Welker could and should have caught it...who knows maybe the Pats fumble on the next play or Brady gets knocked out on a play action pass...granted the game should have went in the Pats favor if he caught it but who knows how it would of played out...a lot of mistakes by the Pats...I don't think the overall better team won this game...just the better team the day it mattered...
