Totally agree. To me, they defy logic. I haven't looked but they have to have one of the best 1-run records in the league. When its tight, they always seem to hold on.

It's like clockwork, when calender hits August/September they throw it in high gear. It is simply amazing.

Their record is truly phenomenal in those months the last few years, especially in August, and extra-specially the last week of August. Since 2002, the Athletics have not lost a single game in the week from August 24th to 30th. They've played 27 times over that span and gone 27-0.

Perhaps that's just a statistical oddity, but it strikes me as simply incredible. Couldn't find any stats before the 2002 season to see how long that's been going on.....

They have played very well the past two months since the 2001 season. Not quite .750 ball, but not that far off and certainly records that a lot of teams would love to have down the stretch...
