I was reading an interview with an oddsmaker. I think his name was Larry Walker, who sets the line for Mirage Resorts. He was saying he doesn't "shade a game" because he thinks San Antonio is going to beat Dallas but because he thinks the public is going to take San Antonio. What does it mean to shade a game?

I am not positive, but I think it means that the linesmakers will shade a game towards a team that is popular with the betting public. They will add an extra point or two towards that team. For example, the Hard Rock gets a lot of Californians so if the oddsmakers make San Diego a -1 point favorite, that sportsbook will open it at -2 or -2.5, knowing it will move that much anyway.
