Default Jeez, my neighbor hung himself today !

Well, maybe not today, sometime in the last week, found today. We were starting to wonder... where's George ? His Miata and other car are both here.

Landlord came looking for the rent, and found him in the basement. He was a nice guy, don't think he was a gambler.

That makes at least three people I've known that have offed themselves.

I barely knew the guy, his name was George, but I always tried to call him Ray.

I did have two former girlfriends kill themselves. One a high school girlfriend that offed herself 20 years later. The other a one night stand when I lived in Vegas. That chick went back to Texas, came back to Vegas, jumped, then the Clark county coronar called me because my phone number was in her purse.

Maybe the landlord said he was well hung and you mistook him for saying he got hung.OK,that's in bad taste but once where I lived as a kid someone hung himself and the neighbor lady was in a panic yelling to everyone that Peter is hung.Of course being little turds at about 12 me and my friends were rolling around on the ground laughing. Then another neighbor shot himself with a deer rifle and when I came home from school at noon for lunch I saw the coroner and cleanup crew hauling sheets of brains out.Needless to say I didn't eat for awhile and to this day I can't walk by the window of the house where the suicide took place and I'm 46.My idiot friend who lived near me went back to school and blurted it out to his 3 kids that their dad blew his brains out.Of course they said go to hell,no he didn't.To this day the kids in their 40's insist the dad was cleaning his gun and it was an accident. The mother-wife was a slut and ran up debt and the guy couldn't deal with it anymore.

Suicide is the worst and it affects so many people. They say it runs in families.

Yes it is. I think here was one thread about it. I think people should have right to kill themselves, but must solve their relationships. I jumped from 4th floor - I am alive, but for family it was hard.
So: If U wanna kill yourself as an act of freedom, you should prepare your family...or ... maybe ...the life is not so bad and absolute freedom is not so important... or not?! ... who knows?

I know heaps of people who have hung themselves. People do it all the time in Australia, we have the highest suicide rate in the world.

Because they keep better stats, and they are more lenient in declaring a suicide so that they don't have to investigate.

(my source...but that is just the statistics, it is probably hard to catch the right numbers, but I can confirm that suicide rate must be function f=(bad weather (+),...,...)... I hate long nights...I have to move out.

One could make their suicide look accidentaal, if desired... fall into the Grand Canyon, etc.

Hanging yourself from a rope, cord, etc, ain't honorable. Thieves and criminals hang to death, it's a death suitable to a horse thief.

If I ever offed myself, that would be last resort, hang on a rope for 5-10 minutes like a horse thief, then strangle for 5-10 minutes.... no thanks... I'd jump , and go splat !

that's just me. I think you should be able to quit your life, if you choose to do so, and are mentally competent.

Enough said, mods delete if you don't like subject.

Sorry, I am not 100% that we ARE the highest but we have an extremely high rate among young males (almost an epedemic). I am not sure why, Australia surely would be one of the best countries in the world to live in.

A large % of the indigenous population get sent to jail and they are forever hanging themselves in custody which I suppose contributes to the stats.

Suicide is almost always the greatest display of cowardice and it's almost never honorable no matter how you choose to do it. Much more than 99% of suicides are evidence of human nature at its most pathetic.

A real man don't off himself via hanging, it has no honor. criminals are hanged. If you decide to check out early, that is the most cowardly way, IMO ! Hang next to the basement washing machine for a week ?, until the local version of Quincy removes your body ?

You only do that once, have some style, but don't take anybody for the ride. I could never off myself that way.

Sorry, I do not agree with you Iset...

After my quite stupid suicide I spent months at hospital.. I saw 80 years old man: he was old, ill (he had something with vains, so he was always falling and breaking his poor bones) and the only important thing of his life - his women, died few years ago.
He told us :"I had a nice hard life, but I do not want to be here any more, I do not know why, I am very unhappy..." People there tried to persuade him but I think this man has right to give up his life. It is not cowardice.

And my case was not cowardice also - yes it was stupidity and recklessness, but cowardice?? I just tried if I am able to do it. Yes I am... Yes. And I feel better. Strange? Maybe. Life is strange.

Not every suicide is escape from problems like gamblers have, because those people are too lazy to solve problems. Some people can irrationally or kvazi-rationally (mental illness*) kill themselves. And some people can not escape like the poor old man.

So I agree with your sentence where often is used instead of always.
*I am sure everybody has times when is not mentally health (crush is one good example).

Yes indeed, commiserations to you Doug.

My late mother’s neighbour decided to hang himself and they found his body suspended on the banister rail. He was a quiet man, always polite and respectful toward his neighbours; it seems that loneliness was his motive, which is kind of ironic as his neighbours suspected something was wrong within about 12-hours of not seeing him pottering about outside his house.

Perhaps your neighbour was just lonely too. It’s so sad that it takes someone to die before we express our feelings for our fellow man.

it's not like the guy was my best friend, just a guy that lived 150 feet away, and a person I might chat with at the mailbox. I really didn't know much about him, and he lived in these condos for less than a year. I do know he was about to buy it.
