Test cricket is often not the most exciting thingto watch but it is a great sport for betting. There are nearly always angles to exploit in the hundreds of props that are offered.

I won't take lectures from citizens of a country whose favourite TV sports are just advertising opportunities on what constitutes "boring".

test cricket might be boring...but its the purest form of cricket. The old school cricket fans love test cricket. Now its all commercialised form with one days and 20/20.

Hawley couldnt agree with u more.

Remember when 1st started watching NFL, had no idea what was going on. But i persevered and after a couple of seasons can safely say that i know enough to understand the basic mechanics.

Other thing is that learning NFL has given me a appreciation of the game that i wouldnt have had otherwise. You'd be surprised what we can learn with a little perseverance pal....PS GO AUSSIES!!!!

It is really only popular in former British colonies.
It is by far the No. 1 sport in the Indian sub-continent.

like Tennis - it can be a game with massive in-play betting swings. A couple of wickets or in T20 low run overs and all of a sudden the odds swing dramatically. I don't bet in-play, but i'd imagine there is a lot of low risk money to be made betting cricket in the run.

If you ever watch a Betfair in-play market you will see that there is nearly always an immediate over-reaction to a wicket falling. If you do nothing else but scalp a few ticks each time you would do fairly well over the course of a match.

For the biggest matches, these markets are quite crowded in terms of the number of traders but for lower profile games it still works very well.

    I read your PM btw.

Yeah, this is so true. As soon as Sehwag got out, odds changed radically. I know Sehwag is an incredibly important player but such a massive swing was a big overreaction.

Big difference as far as cricket and tennis is this

Low profile tennis matches at Betfair have potential to get a lot of volume and do if not a lot of matches being played or match is hot

    Cricke NO

Only thing i bet in Cricket is sometimes the Under 1.5 run outs. Otherwise nothing. Quite the boring sport.

I am not ashamed to admit I love test cricket. Great game! I went to the Aus/India Test today and will be going again on Day 4.

I bet on Cricket a fair bit, mostly innings totals while in-play, and match outcome. I only bet on test & one day matches. 20/20 is not worth touching at all.

Love tests too. One dayers have become boring, and I can't get into 20/20 at all, but test cricket continues to be an interesting format after 200 odd years.

And there are plenty of exciting bits. You just need to be watching for a long time to catch them all.

    Definitely agree.

20/20 is a joke. It's just not a proper cricket match. Cricket is about being able to handle a new and old ball, development of the pitch, etc. None of this matter in 20/20.

Have you heard of 5ives Cricket?

It has innings rules kinda sorta like baseball. Which apparently makes it more appealing to non-fans (Americans)

There were 80k people at the MCG on Boxing Day watching - many had travelled from elsewhere to do so. I find watching on TV quite boring at times but when I've gone to see it live, especially the day Warnie got his 700th wicket, it's been pretty awesome.

Thought Cricket was done. After the early/mid 90's, Cricket wasn't/isn't interesting anymore.

I have no clue how it's become better or worse over the years as I didn't grow up with it obviously. But I quite enjoy it now. I like the traditions with it too. How they have drinks and tea breaks and the things people chant in the crowds. I'd definitely take someone for a day out to the MCG if they came to visit. At least you get your money's worth.

I had never heard of it before! Sounds interesting, cricket with a little baseball angle. But the game doesnt need tweaking, it is best in its original format. Test Cricket.

Sounds far more interesting than 20/20 to me too.

They have had a few test games that were a resounding success.

Won't be able to really take off until the Indian Cricket Board embraces it though. Which is apparently a decent chance of happening in 2012.

Cricket is a very simple game and hundreds of millions of its admirers are able to enjoy it because its rules are simple and the fun of the game has been increasing from last 4 decades. Test cricket was not so interesting as the players spent lot of time to settle in the game but the introduction of one day game its popularity as players took less time to settle and started to hit soon. The introduction of T20 format reduced the time of a match to a few hours and the players take not a single minute to settle these days. They start to hit as soon as they come to their side of the crease.
