Default Sportbet cancels winning bet more than halfway through game.

Today I placed a bet at Sportbet on the Mariners under 5 runs -110. Midway through the 6th inning, with Seattle trailing 4-2, I received an email claiming that the wager had been cancelled due to a "bad line." The manager said that the line was supposed to be under 4 not 5. This is total BS. Pinnacle, Bodog and Olympic all had the line at 4.5, so 4 is just as "bad" as 5. Also, if this was truly an error, why did they wait until the Mariners had already batted 6 times, and were very likely to go under, before deleting it?

This is not the first time I've had problems with this crooked joint fraudulently cancelling winning wagers. I advise anyone to stay away from this book.

I've said for years that Sportbet with Jake the "Snake" cancelling bets, confiscating bonuses, and lying on the forums, is a book to stay away from.

Sportbet is a shady book. PERIOD!

If you have had problems in the past at SportBet why do you continue playing there.

Ricky,
Have Bill take a look at this. It may have been a slightly off line but it looks like it could be too close to the market to cancel.

I think “bad line” rules in general are justified. But they should apply only to blatantly obvious typos and such (e.g., offering +180 when the rest of the world is between –175 and –190, making it obvious what was intended was –180). I’ve been seeing way too many cases in recent months and years where sportsbooks are invoking the rule when they happen to move their line a little slow or they otherwise get caught just a tad outside the market consensus. That’s ridiculous. And to cancel it after the event starts just makes it that much worse.

I’ve never played at this book, but it seems like all I’ve ever seen in the forums about it is just this kind of nonsense. If it’s not improper use of the “bad line” rule, it’s revoking bonuses, or deceptive marketing, or punishing customers who complain about them in the forums. Just not one of the classier joints out there.

Not good ! I'd estimate a half run on a team total to be worth a max of 30 cents vig. That's just a quick thought without research. Not very many offer it, so hard to compare to others.

Follow-up:

With a gentle nudge from the good guys at SBR, Sportbet has decided to honor the wager in question.

Ricky Steve, I imagine I owe you more than you could possibly know (Well, I guess you know now). I too had placed the same wager, and with a lot going on of late for myself, had decided to simply accept the cancelation decision and move on.....Turns out Sportbet emailed me this afternoon, and in a very classy move IMO decided to credit me with the winning wager afterall, along with a very detailed and informative explanation as to why. I would think this is in large part due to your diligence so thank you kindly. All hail RickySteve.

SportBet.com reversed its decision, and honored wagers for everyone who played Seattle under 5 in that game.

Kudos to John Taylor, the csd manager at SportBet for addressing this quickly. I'd also note that Mr. Taylor has offered to directly address any problem such as this.

Yeah, that would be handy.

Cancel a bet before gametime on a bad line, fair enough I guess. But don't wait until the match starts. At worse case, they could price the wager at "market odds" if the line was so far out and the game had started.

Thank you Sportbet.

These things happen at all books. Players should take note that Sportbet is open to look at a ruling and reverse its self. Contrast that with the recent BetOnSports thefts where their management basically told SBR that they stole the money fair and square.

Sportbet is a book that cares about getting it right.

Utopia, according to the email I recieved, 4 individuals had wagered on this betting option, and all were having the win credited to their accounts.

with only 4 wagers on it, why would they risk the negative backlash associated with canceling a wager after the game started?

They claimed that the wagers were deleted before the game and CS attempted to contact the bettors. However, I was home the entire time and received no phone call. The email announcing the cancellation was sent during the 6th inning.

The manager said that the email should have been sent before the game. Since it wasn't, he decided to reinstate the wagers (with SBR's urging).

their claim sounds like a line. at least they reversed the grade.

this is a pefect example of why players need great sites like sbr, I don't know how or why I didn't find these forums sooner.

Sportbet is notorious for screwing players with Jake pulling the strings.

He always makes it right when the forums catch him red handed cheating the player. Should we continue to give him credit for that? Or maybe tell him the cheat player, make it right ONLY if it makes it to the forum policy is getting old.

Anybody think that if Seattle had scored 5 runs by the 6th inning, Sportbet would have sent e-mails cancelling the Under bets?....Did'nt think so.

Default Apologies for a late arrival to this thread..

RickySteve,

My apologies for not replying sooner. First, sportbet.com will NOT cancel wagers AFTER the game has started. That is not the way we want to do business, nor is it what our clients expect. That being said, allow me to explain what happened.

First, the line was a bad line, but was up for a period of time before being caught. In fact, we caught the error at about 3:45 pm EST. The game was a 4:05 game. Upon catching the error, the linesmen informed our email department. Due to a lack of communication, the email was not put as a priority and was not sent until almost 3/4 of the way through the game. HOWEVER, the wagers were deleted before the first pitch, at about 4:05 EST. When we were contacted, John (CS Manager) realized what had occurred and immediately rectified the situation.

I apologize that you had to go through this incident, but I hope you take confidence in the fact that sportbet.com will always do the right thing. I would be happy to show you the documentation of the above facts, if it would make you feel more confident in our decision.

Gentlemen,

Thank you for taking the time to express your thoughts and opinions on this subject. I am glad I could come in and clear up some of the confusion. Certain posters have an agenda, and most of you know that. These posters are transparent and spout the same retoric year in and year out, regardless of how untrue they are proven to be. Over the years, I have seen it happen on almost every single posting forum (most of the time it is the same poster on all the sites).

Rest assured that sportbet.com would never do anything to jeapordize all of the hard work and effort that we have put into this company over the years. We have been around for almost 10 years now, and there is NO LEGITIMATE INSTANCE of us not paying. There is NO LEGITIMATE INSTANCE of us cheating a client. In fact, over the years, sportbet.com has bailed out bankrupt books, helped clients who were stiffed by books that disappeared, and maintained a prominant position on the forums, always around when people ask. We do not hide from any poster or any situation. As we look at it, we feel we are continuing to move forward, grow bigger, and provide a better service to our clientele on a regular basis, and we show no signs of slowing down. Hopefully, we will see more of you posters around during football and more experiences can be relayed.

Thanks for your time, gentlemen. If any of you would like to discuss this, or any other aspect of our company, please feel free to contact me.

Jake

So any site or poster that criticizes a book, especially if they do so consistently enough to be predictable, has an “agenda.”

I’ll be sure to keep that in mind.

Agenda driven posters are best annoying and at worst as deceptive as the "criminal" institutions they rail against.

I think Chuck Sims is now one of the most respected
posters in the forum world. He warned alot of people
about BoS and Mil, and took alot of heat for it and
never sold out. Chuck Sims is solid..

Jake-

thank you for replying directly here. Even the best sportsbooks will have occasional problems, and most of these can be resolved if both parties communicate well. About half of all sportsbook complaints are caused by poor communications; your willingness you improve communications will make your life easier in the long-run.

You still can't figure it out, can you Chuck? I've never ripped you for anything you've said. I've simply asked that you say something new. When you come on here and say that a place is run by a bunch of criminals it is the equivalent of someone else coming on and saying it's run by a bunch of angels, because you don't provide any substance to the debate. Just like when you call me a stooge and you couldn't have even the slightest idea who I am or what I do. You have nothing to back it up so it simply doesn't mean anything. Keep telling us the devil is bad, Chuck. You're doing a great job. As soon as I believe in the devil you'll have my respect.

TLD,

I apologize if I was unclear with my statement. Certain posters always post regarding certain books. Many times they have never played with the book in question, but rather tend to side with a player who posted his version of the story. As we all know, there is always another side. I hope that I managed to explain myself a bit better on this attempt.

As for our friend Chuck, I would only like to comment on his interaction with us. Folks, we have never stiffed, stolen, cheated, bribed or broken a deal with any of our clients. I understand that Chuck has the best intentions, however he has been saying that we are a bad book for YEARS. Stating we are going out of business for YEARS. Yet, here we are...expanding and growing every day. I have asked him to give us a chance, but he refuses. The difference between our situation and that of BoS is Chuck played at BoS.

My contention is that if so many people who play with us are saying that we are vastly improved, if we pay every single client within an hour guaranteed, if we have some of the best bonuses/promotions in the industry, if our Customer Service is some of the best (if not the best) in the industry, how can we be called a bad book? That is all I want to know.

As for the original reason of this post, sportbet.com admits that the clients should have been contacted sooner. The bets were deleted before the game, but the clients were not contacted in time. When our management was informed of this, they rectified the situation to the client's satisfaction.

Thank you for your time, gentlemen.

Jake
