Citibank Creditcard Settlement
Just wanted to let you guys all know, Citibank is sending out letters once you hit 120 days late OFFERING 40% settlements. I was a little shocked as not one call was required to them, they offered up 40% and it was a good offer. I tried to get 30% but they would not budge. So 40% it is. Not a bad deal.

OUch Brock...things are so bad that you are 120 days late on your CC bill? I don't think settling for 40% is worth ruining your credit.....

This is a result from a long time back actually...
long story short, i settled for 40%, but i had "double douped" the card and in the end i paid them off with their own money, i can explain in detail if you'd like.
Ambi...i am a CASH only guy and settling cards is a very small ding on your credit report, pretty much will have zero impact within a year.

about 160K to the folks...pay them monthly by paying their mortgage, will be nailing that sucker pretty soon though as with this Citibank settlement we are done with ANY and ALL credit card debt. Have to pay some small taxes and my web disigner to finish my website for my new business, then it will be like 3500 to 4 dimes a month onto my folks mortgage. using an amoritization calc, we should be free and clear by sometime in 2011.

But delivering Pizza's can't make much money, I don't think I would get out of bed to work a job like that. More power to you though Brock. I hope you get your financial situation taken care of. I hope you can be back gambling and picking some winners. Make a deposit just a small one!

the za hut job pays about 17 bux an hour with the tips and salary included...more than you would think, almost ALL cash too.

Bottom line though, Citibank OFFERED the 40% settlement without so much as a single phone call from me, pretty unprecidented

Brock you could not be more OFF... You are settling the debt so it wont continue to accrue interest and it wont eventually get sold to a collection agency but it still get charged off which is a HUGE ding on your credit report. Charge offs are one step below judgements...
I dont know where you got that misinformation from but it is way off... I have worked in credit and collections for over 7 years.

its marked as Paid in Full/Settlement. I work in this biz too and i know the impact is minimal after a year. And anyway, if you have a bunch of cards, its better to settle if you can, last thing people need to do is pay out the ass in interest and then just repeat the cycle all over again. there is a trade-off for doign this, but its more than worth it.

But you can keep contesting the information on your credit report until it comes off and it does come off. They have 30 days to respond to a dispute and eventually they don't.

Seems pretty apparent that Brock is not back here for the camaraderie, but more to slowly try to sell this credit scheme off to SBR gamblers. Gotta make that money back somehow.
JMO...but seriously....Brock has a big following here, most of whom have told him that his being here is not good for him. Then this might be the 3rd thread mentioning this credit card debt crap.
Unreal.

There is nothing ethical about borrowing money and then not paying it all back, or basically advising people on how to rip off credit card companies. It's simple. Don't borrow money you can't afford to pay back.
It's this sorry ass attitude that has the country and our economy in the shape it's in. Borrowing and buying stuff they can't afford, then when it's time to pay the bill looking for any way to get out of it.

Great post! I completely agree, I can't even relate to people that do stuff like this. I think a lot of it is how you were raised and how much of a responsible adult you have become. I have never been late on any payments of any sort and couldn't imagine being in a situation where I had to think of pulling this crap.

I'll take the unpopular stance here gladly. I agree totally with flavo.
I truly think that the friends who have welcomed back Brock with open arms here are being used.
Something smells fishy. Hell...maybe he never "gambled" to begin with.
Just sayin.....

I did it in college one night a week for some pocket money, ended up making $20 -25 a hour when you factor in tips. The place I worked for let me use the owners car, so I didn't have to pay for gas. Not a bad gig for a college kid, but for a grown adult it must suck.

I'm not knocking a pizza guy, because I believe you do whatever you have to do to survive...However, bread is spot on, do you think i'm taking financial advice from brock? hell no.
