Default Let's Talk About Licensing in Costa Rica

If you have a license to operate a sportsbook in Costa Rica, what exactly does that mean? How much does it cost? Is there an agency that checks up on their licenses.

I get the impression that a Costa Rica license means that you have paid off the government so that no government-funded goons will show up at your door with AK47s demanding that you shut down. Beyond I imagine it's just words to fill up your website and give players a false sense of security. Is there more to it than this?

There is no sportsbook license in CR. Some of them pay for a business license. A while back the gov said they were going to start charging for bm licenses but after a few of the big boys paid it, the plan was scrapped and it is was not enforced.

So essentially any book from Costa Rica is an unlicensed and therefore unregulated institution...

Apparently it is much cheaper to operate a book from Costa Rica than from other places.
