Harold Reynolds fired by ESPN, report says
Tuesday, July 25, 2006 9:33 AM
ESPN Television yesterday fired analyst Harold Reynolds from Baseball Tonight, a story on The New York Post's Web site says. The reason was not immediately known.
"We are not going to comment," The Post quotes ESPN vice president Josh Krulewitz.
Reynolds did not return calls to The Post.
Reynolds, 45, had been with ESPN 11 years.
Reynolds played 12 season in the major leagues, breaking in with the Seattle Mariners in 1982 and retiring in '94 with the California Angels. He was an All-Star in 1987 and '88.
In addition to his duties on Baseball Tonight with ESPN, he also covered the College World Series for the network.

Maybe him and Irvin were getting down with the pipe

This sucks, Im with Dan. He was one of the few I liked on ESPN. With Gammons out, and now this, Baseball tonight may not be worth watching now.
I cant wait to hear the real reason why he got the boot.

there have been a few speculations about him being fired for sexual harrassment.
SBR Founder Join Date: 8/10/2005
(UPDATE:Anyone who is saying sexual harassment either has been given bad third-hand info or is lying. Harold has had a couple of rather heated arguments with the producers at "Baseball Tonight," and some of the suits at ESPN over the program's coverage of Alex Rodriguez. At the last production meeting, when it was made clear they were going to really play up the A-Rod angle during coverage of the Yankees-Texas series, Harold had a colossal meltdown, which led to his dismissal. The sexual harassment allegations are even more laughable when you consider that he is being replaced by Steve Phillips -- a man who has never met a skirt he wouldn't chase and who was caught in one of the more embarrassing front office sexual harassment scandals in MLB history."
True? Not true? This, like the rest of it, just reinforces our point: We don't know. And the longer ESPN pretends like nothing happened, like they're a corner shop with three employees, believing this stuff can possibly remain private, the more talk there will be. Still, this is the lone "it's not sexual harassment email" we've received.)

Probable Gag order on why.

I am leaning toward the way ESPN has gone over the top with A-Rod having a bad 10 days.
Sunday night both Phillips and Reynolds said A-Rod should be traded. Kruk said both of them were crazy. I thought it was staged all the way. Now we find out it was as if you believe the e-mail that explained it was planned in the production meeting they were gonig to play up the A-Rod slump.
Maybe they told Reynolds to say A-Rod should be traded and he was really pissed off because of it. Totally out of character for Reynolds to have that kind of an opinion.

I can't believe you guys liked Reynolds, he was terrible, IMO.

I thought Reynolds really improved in his time with ESPN. When he started he was painful, but he developed some polish and he did great work with the Little League telecasts and has a genuine understanding of the game. He has become much more eloquent and I don't think it will be difficult for him to work out a deal with Fox. I'll be cheering for him.

Looks like Harold Reynolds didn't strike out just yet
BRISTOL, Conn. -- Harold Reynolds plans to sue ESPN over his departure from the network as a baseball analyst last summer.
Reynolds played 12 major league seasons and joined ESPN in 1996.
"I have tried everything possible to handle this situation quietly behind closed doors. After numerous conversations and multiple mediation discussions with ESPN executives, it is clear that ESPN had no intention of solving this problem amicably," Reynolds said in a statement.
"For 11 years, I served ESPN with enthusiasm and dedication. It is unfortunate that ESPN has handled this process in an unprofessional manner. At the end of the day, my integrity, reputation and family are my top priorities, and for those reasons I need to set the record straight and clear my name."
ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz said Monday that the network had been made aware that Reynolds either has filed a lawsuit or plans to in coming days.
"The suit is without merit," Krulewitz said. "We stand by our decision and have no further comment now that litigation has begun."

Good for Harold.
If his suit does in fact have merit, I hope that ESPN gets absolutely taken to the cleaners.
