Opposition proposed an amendment to the bill, which would outlaw ALL Internet gaming and toss the exemption for horse racing and lotteries. A voice vote was taken with the Nos to the amendment winning (but it didn't sound decisive). Rep. Berkley requested a floor vote on the amendment and enough people in favor stood up, so it was granted.

I don't know how this works, but I think the speaker said a vote on the amendment is Wednesday.

If the amendment passes, the legislation will die. However, I don't think it will pass.

A House vote on the complete legislation might still be tomorrow. Unlike 2000, I think they just need a majority to pass.

Remember, when you hear the word "regulation', they really mean "taxation"

I heard the speaker wrong earlier. They are voting on the amendment now and it's getting crushed. Looks like the House will pass this legislation later today.

Hopefully, Senate inaction will save the day.

Democrats are also supporting this in force. Let's not give them a pass. Almost 100 have voted against the amendment.

House has passed the legislation. Vote was landslide, something like 330-93. Don't excuse the Democrats here. They are just as guilty os the Republicans.

    Default Toast

Looks like internet gambling is toast - or at least will be taking a very hard hit next year. How unfortunate and unfair - the state lotteries, horse racing, and indian casino's will thrive - and these cause a hell of a lot more harm and damage to American citizens than do internet gambling. What a sham.

You cant have it both ways. Either get rid of all gambling or legalize it all.

This country provides more mixed messages that living in it is very confusing.

I agree 100 percent on casinos causing more damage than online sites.

But don't worry just yet. The Senate must approve this legislation as is for it to be sent to the president. Many feel the Senate won't even take the legislation up by the end of the session this year. Even if they do, unless they pass the same exact legislation, it won't become law unless they settle differences.
