    Default Tuesday Thumbs

The purpose of this thread is to give tribute or scorn to things in the world of sports, betting or whatever. THUMBS UP or THUMBS DOWN .

:thumbs_do to the World Cup of Football (Soccer). Hype and spectacle are one thing but I just thought it was a crappy tournament.

:thumbs_up to Roy Halladay. I heard an interesting stat about him recently. In his Cy Young year he had 36 starts and went 22-7 with a 3.25 ERA. In his next 36 starts since then he went 23-6 with a 2.69. More to the point, he has made me some good money.

:thumbs_up to Canadian Daniel Nestor, one of the best doubles tennis players in the world. Last week, the former Olympic Gold medalist, along with his partner Mark Knowles, gutted it out to win the longest doubles match in Grand Slam history, 5-7, 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 23-21 in 6 hours, 9 minutes.

Unfortunately, and perhaps it should come as no surprise, there was no gas left in the tank for their semi-final match where they lost to eventual champions Bryan/Bryan.

:thumbs_up to Roger Federer for winning his 4th straight Wimbledon men's singles title, and 8th Grand Slam overall.

:thumbs_do to Ricky Williams of the Toronto Argos. He still seems like a good guy but the performance on the field has been weak. After 4 games he has 53 carries for 214 yards and 7 receptions for 58 yards. That just doesn't cut it. If anything, he seems to be getting weaker as the season progresses.

to Italy for winning the World Cup. The tournament didn't have the same excitement to it for me as others in the past. But you still gotta' give the winners their due.

to the Houston Astros who have spent the last three weeks playing like anything but defending NL Champions.

to Jim Leyland and the Tigers who have shocked everyone to post the best record in the game at the All-Star break.

from the world of politics where Tom DeLay is suddenly back on the ballot in Texas' US Congressional District 22. Double thumbs down to everyone in that district who will be voting for the crook.

I think he forgot to put "me" somewhere in that sentence. If not, Dan has been holding out on some information, he usually tips me off on these things on my cell.

This is a gift to your beloved donkeys as DeLay doesn't want to run in Texas, doesn't live in Texas, and the publicans are doing everything they can to make sure he isn't forced to run in Texas. The best way for the mocrats to win the seat is to have Delay on the ballot pulling away votes from any legitimate contender the elephants can offer. Therefore you should be sending a thumbs up to every idiot that votes for DeLayd as it is similar to a vote for Nader the year the Gore got gored.

This is no gift, cap. I lived in District 22 for years, and it it as far right as any district in GOP-laden Texas. If DeLay's on the ballot, he will still win that seat, mark it. After he wins and gets sworn in, he resigns and then Gov Perry will get to appoint someone to fill his seat for the term. If Hitler was on the ballot in that district under the GOP heading, he'd win in a landslide.
