Default OFF TOPIC - seen any good movies lately?

. . . or any movies that people should be aware are bad?

I've seen a couple movies in the last week.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose - I thought it was excellent. The thing to be aware of though is that the marketing is misleading. It's not really a teen creep-out flick. It's more of a courtroom drama (with some creepy bits).

I thought the acting and script were very good. It is also the sort of movie that raises some interesting philosophical questions that lend themselves to good post-viewing discussion.

Flightplan - This was a decent thriller as long as you don't think about it too much. There are some holes in the plot. It's similar in some ways to another Jodie Foster thriller, Panic Room. Good, but don't analyze it too much.

I just saw that yesterday too Sean. I got a lot of laughs. I thought it was funnier than the new episodes they have been coming out with since Fox brought the show back (which, IMO, have been a notch below the episodes from the original run).

My name is Mudcat an I am also a 40-something borderline retard.

Here here. Huge Charlie Kaufman fan myself. Adaptation, Being John Malkovich, and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind are all fantastic as well.

I'm months behind but I did just see Sahara with Cruz and Macanawho... Probably the worst movie i've seen of the three this year. They put the mystery together like it was a Scooby Doo ending. Anyone else know what Im talking about? They fall on top of the boat in the desert??

Are you posting porn links? What were those?

I liked Million Dollar Baby. I'm looking forward to watching Into the Blue. Might have to watch it with the sound off.

I dont watch many movies now .. my recently watched favs would prob be :

    Dodgeball (quality)
Brady Bunch I (a much under-rated classic of its genre)
Sean of the Dead (drifts a bit but good)
Mystic River (could have done with a few jokes though)
    Shallow Hal (a masterpiece)

    Recent turn-offs :

Sunshine of a Spotless mind (cant get past the first ten minutes .. Ive tried twice .. it is just annoying ... sorry ... and I loved The Truman Show)
The Butterfly Effect (I didnt laugh once I dont think)
    School of Rock (just shit)

As you can tell, Im no movie critic ... but, hey, I know what I like.

I've been putting my Tivo through the ringer lately watching movies. Finally got around to seeing Bulworth which, at first was slow, but was then very thought-provoking, especially with what goes on these days. There's been rumors he might run against Arnold in the next governor's race. I think I'd prefer Annette Bening as our first lady rather than Maria Shriver, ya think?

Mystic River was great (yes it could have done with a few jokes). Almost all my New England friends hated the movie because they said it perpetuated stereotypes about them. Go figure.

Also finally saw The Village. Loved it. But, I think with that, most people either like Night or don't. Haven't found anyone on the fence about him yet.

May be seeing Constant Gardener tomorrow. Heard it is excellent. On EVERYONE'S list should be the upcoming Good Night, and Good Luck. May even be a good history lesson for everyone. Directed by Clooney with an all star cast. Definitely gonna catch it.

Oh that's right, I forgot, I saw The Constant Gardener recently.

It was good. I found it a little dry at times. Like I'd be watching it thinking, 'Let's keep this moving, okay?' But it was generally pretty good.

I found a good way to rent DVD's... Netflix.

I don't much like movie theatres... too loud, expensive, noisy damn kids, etc.

I saw "Hitch" as my first Netflix film, didn't like it.

Netflix is a service $10-18 mo for 1-3 movies out. You select , they mail with return paid envelope, mail back you get next disc. You could easily go thru 40+ in a month ( if you have time to watch).

They have a free trial period. So far, so good !
