I have made myself the unofficial tracker of all things Bet Atlas. There have been big problems through the entire year 2008.
They are still rated B- here. IMO SBR has simply dropped the ball on that one.
Atlas has proven itself to be one of these books that is ready/eager to take deposits but is just not ready/willing for payouts.
But hopefully SBR can help you. I would be interested to know any details you may like to provide. The good news is, I haven't heard of Atlas STIFFing anyone; they are just incredibly slow/inefficient/weaselly.
Bet Atlas - avoid

Mudcat,
Care to post a quick summary of why you would downgrade them?
Hi sir,
What was your complaint against BetAtlas about?

Yes Bread, I see you there and have seen you there before. You got me good.
You have created a paradox. The reason I feel they should be downgraded is because of the sheer volume of problems spread over such a long time. Thus a "quick summary" is tough. But I'll give it my best shot.
Atlas has been very slow and inefficient at payouts going back to the start of 2008 and apparently now continuing into the new year. 8-12 weeks has been normal.
It's not just the slow-paying; it's the screwing around. One example: dude's payout took 12+ weeks. He estimated he spent 50+ hours on the phone/on hold/chasing Atlas people. Among the screw-arounds, he was sent for ** pick ups and when he got there, there was no money for him - TWICE. (And for good measure they over-charged him on their published fees for "discretionary" reasons).
That's just one of about a dozen cases I'm aware of spread pretty evenly over 2008. There was a formal complaint on that one - based on forum discussion, there have been others - so it is not just a case of SBR having to take the word of anonymous posters making claims. SBR should know what is going on.
SBR defines B- as: Good, minimal risk to players funds. Top 10% of all books.
Atlas may have fit that description once upon a time but it has been a long time.

Dan it has to do with a large total ran up from a free play won in a contest. To be able to withdraw you have to deposit a said amount. This shantystar is in Pakistan, on Creditwagering stiff list and wants help. He uses a internet cafe in his town to post. Not sure that Atlas will give him what he wants, unless he deposits and this book is in trouble and I wouldn't deposit my worst enemies money into any horizon book.

Ah, It had something to do with a contest another forum was running.

Hi Shanty,
I replied to your New year's eve email advising you to contact the forum where the promotion was offered through. When third party sites are involved the terms can be hard to nail down without documentation. The website should be able to show what the deal was and we can go from there.
Let me know through the forum or call again if you think there may be a problem with email.

A couple thoughts. I think many many players have been assisted by SBR that would not have seen anything without SBR. I have always said even in competition that gamblers are better off with SBR than without. Also, it takes revenue to stay afloat even from some books disliked by members. Without revenue, then the site is not here to help anyone. I have had/seen legit complaints on about every book around personally. It is great that posters can share these feelings openly on the forum so that others can stay informed and make their own choices. Most of us have learned the hard way getting thru life. Getting thru the world of on line gambling is a similar experience.
Good luck
