:thumbs_up to the Hall of Fame career of Steve Yzerman, one of the greatest and most respected players in the history of hockey. 6th on the all-time scoring list, this career Detroit Red Wing captained 3 Stanley Cup champions and was a member of the Canadian Olympic gold medal winning team in 2002. For all his personal accomplishments, he will always be known for his humility and is a Canadian treasure.

:thumbs_do to the Hockey Hall of Fame for having the weakest standards of any HOF. Dick Duff was a good player and seems like a hell of a nice guy but this is a clear case of crony-ism. A bunch of old boys elected their buddy. Herb Brooks had his big moment but not a HOF career. He was inducted out of sentimentality. A couple years ago Clark Gillies was the good but ultimately undeserving player being enshrined. It happens too often. A Hall of Fame should not be about niceness; it should be about high standards.

I agree with Paul, I think its unfair for some teams to lose in PK shootouts.
This year I would have really enjoyed to see Argentina advance...

Well at least you have a suggestion.

The problem with that is it leaves the potential for 5, 10, 20+ hour games. Apart from the issues for fans, it would leave a team involved in such a marathon at a (possibly very big) disadvantage for future games.

I assume that's the reason they don't do that. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

It's been suggested that in the case of a tie after the initial extra time both teams remove a player for a sudden death match up. This is then repeated every few minutes until a winner is determined.

I agree. This supposed to be the biggest sporting event in the world and if it take 10 hours to finish a game I say so be it.

I enjoy the PK's as well Mud. I think I could honestly score on one. I think it is embarassing when they run up to it and tap it like they are shaving points.

But if you don't like PK's just win the damn match like Italy did today.

Aren't there 20+ hour matches in the overwhelmingly exciting sport of cricket? Between football and cricket, I suspect the British version of ESPN would have a tedium that could be equated to a day spent in solitary confinement at a maximum security prison.
