now that were about at the all-star break. i'm wondering what teams will be buyers and what teams will be sellers.

we still have a number of teams in contention, although we do see teams like atlanta and baltimore who just aren't going to make the cut this year. i gotta believe these two teams will start there fire sales soon enough.

if you were a GM, how many games do you think a team must be out of contention before you would decide to make a move ?

If you're in the shit come the All-Star break then if a GM thinks that a fire-sale is the answer to their problems then they're a pretty crappy GM.

If you're 10+ games behind the wildcard come the All-Star break, you should write the season off and consider what you can do to make sure that you're 10+ games ahead of the wildcard next season.

The Tigers will need to deal with Maroth coming off the DL in a few weeks. Too many arms on that roster and since Miner has done so well you can't really send him down. I say the Tigers make a trade to get a DH now that Dimitri Young is probably out of the picture.
The Twins need some more bats and have some decent minor leaguers to trade. They'll need to do something to get a wildcard.

i wonder how long those "tweener" type teams will hold out trying to see if there team might gel.

the team that comes to mind right off the bat is philly. the phillies always seem to make a surge about 2 weeks before the trade deadline. this year there has been alot of talk about trading abreu though, so maybe this year might be different for them although i doubt it.

If you are within 7 or 8 games of the division or Wild Card lead, you SHOULD be considered a buyer, otherwise you SHOULD be considered a seller (assuming you have something of value on your team to trade or a bunch of guys headed for free agency at season's end)

Should be some BIG deals coming up towards the end of the month, maybe not in quality but def. quanity. I see possibly 30 guys changing uniforms as we get close to the deadline

The Mets and Dodgers are going to wind up the biggest buyers, I think. Who can the Yankees trade you right now to get anyone decent? Other than a big pile of cash, I mean. Maybe the Indians, Brewers and Angels are the bigger sellers, just a guess. Heck, the Cubs might lop off a veteran or two as well.
