Default I quit

I am 29 years old, a beautiful wife, 3 wonderful kids. My addiction has taken my life over. If I keep it up I will lose everything. I wish you all luck, but I am done.

Either you need to give it up or give it a break. If you give it a break you may be fine, but first I'll give it a break!

Its really a very unhealthy way to make money if you dont keep it in perspective, constantly studying stats and line movements and reading forums,etc... A very unhealthy lifestyle, mentally and physically ,sort of like day trading .
A very bad hobby at least for obsessive personalities.just keep it to a couple hundred bucks and do it for fun.good luck with your decision

My biggest problem is my money management. I can pick winners, but dont know how to manage my funds. I have always loved capping. Always loved sports, but its out of control. Maybe a break is what I need, I just dont know what has happened to me that I have started this thread.

I quit for a year about 6 years ago. I came back and started betting smarter. I started finding better lines and making +ev bets. It has made a huge difference. I capped games well before but had terrible money management too. Now I only bet a few game lines when I see a line that is off. I mostly stick to quarters and halves and do some middling where I do real well. I still have MM issues from time to time but nothing too bad.

Thats the thing, I make good + money bets for the most parts, I have a good understanding of "soft" lines, I middle, I hedge at halves, but I chase. I take on TOO much action. It is burying me. I have been playing online for about a year, and gained tons of knowledge, but I make terrible MM decisions.

I have been there. Chasing will KILL you. I just chased a couple of bets this past weekend and lost a significant amount doing it. Tonight after being strict I went 5-0 in the NFL quarters and half sides and totals, 2-2 in NBA qrt and half sides and totals to help get the money I lost back. That last chase will calm me down a little so I'm sure it'll be a while before I do it again. It's too much work having to get it back.

dasher, the part that's bad about gambling is not just the money, but that it takes away your whole life.. it also ruins your quality time with your family. you ignore your kids, your wife, you are anti social, you make everyone miserable around you, you neglect your son when he wants to spend time with you playing with his xbox and you keep saying, wait son, wait... not now, later.. because you want to see the 3rd period.. your family suffers the most, not you.. it's not fair for them.. you neglect the world and you are in your own bubble. it's like a drug addict or an alcoholic, no difference.

in the last 1 week, i have refused my GF for walks, going out for supper, going shopping for xmas gifts at night, driving her to the store.. i made her take bus so i dont miss the habs game.. (-48 degrees) i never eat supper at table, always grab it and eat facing tv. she's alone every night in the room, and when she comes out to living room to tell me something, i shooooooooosh her all the time. There's not one time she talks to me and i am listening.. i am looking at forum, or screen, or checking scores... my mind is occupied and i keep nodding to her pretending i am listening, but i am not hearing one word she is saying to me.. that's because we gamblers dont give a shit about anyone except our games and ourselves..

Dasher, it will ruin your life and your family's, too.. Gamblers are really not well liked at all.. Gambling will make us bad people.. we are miserable, selfish, unpleasant, and egotistical people.. Get out while you can dasher, it's not easy.. it's a freakin disease.. it's like quitting cigarettes. very hard. Good Luck..

I dont sweat games, I am an action junkie. I dont feel attachment to my plays. I am rather stoic, but like I said my MM kills me, cause I lay heavy on games where I dont have an edge. I make stupid decisions.

You just have to have self control Nicky! My fiance told me the same thing months ago. And I have learned to balance my gambling and my girl. I even got some pussy just now in the shower. You just have to know how to handle your life.

Dude believe me I got fukin hammerred in Nov, lost big fukin cash, had been on fire in Sept and Oct and thought I couldn't lose, November annihilated me and brought me back down to earth, you gotta keep this shit in perspective most of the lines are pretty fukin accurate and we're payin vig on top of that, if you see a great line like Alabama -5 when they played TN NCAAF earlier this year go full bore and cash a nice ticket but more often that not lines are either slightly +/- EV not the fukin "guaranteed lock easy money" BS the idiot degens that have never bet over 10 bucks on a game will tell ya. You got a wife and kids you got much more important things to occupy your time than studyin lines all day and throwin the remote when u lose a big chunk of cash on a final minute score or miss

Nicky is right in alot of ways.gambling is fun if its social and you are playing cards or in a casino or around people watching games or in vegas. But with computers and the advent of online gambling ,it can become really quite antisocial.

Very few people on here really make money in the long run,or at least tell the truth about real roi numbers over a long period of time.People go on runs but they rarely last over long periods of time.

It is the same with stocks, you really have to have incredible self discipline and money management to survive in the long run

I agree with everything.
I capped games today, one game stuck out:
Seton Hall/James Madison
On initial look, I saw that Seton Hall had a short bench and there was NO way in hell they would keep up with JMU. But I kept looking at numbers, and talked myself into SH for 1st half. I spend too much time analyzing every little stupid thing.

After the Clippers not being able to lose by 15, makes me want to puke. They killed my half-time bet after being down six at one point in the 4th quarter.

I try to play halftimes exclusively to hedge or middle bets. But my need for action ****s me over

I am definitely taking the holidays off to spend time with my family. Unfortunately for me and the forum, you will probably see my degenerate ass in the new year. Hope everyone has a safe and happy holidays.

I think almost everyone who has gambled has kicked themselves when they are down. Hang in there. I have been gambling for 30 years.

Probably my best asset is money management. I believe this is the most important factor in my gambling endeavors for the last 30 years.

I have realized that I will not become a millionaire from gambling. I try and control my tilt betting. I have made mistakes, but never a devastating mistake. I like action. Action and competition are my addictions. By controlling my money management, I am still able to gamble on sports and poker.

I am able to balance a good job, a family, and fill my need for action by controlling my bankroll.

I would never advocate someone gambling, but if they like action, I find money management the key.

I have many friends over the years who have crashed and burned via gambling due to money management. I have continued to feed my action because of money management. That's the only tip I have based on my 30 years of action. Best wishes.
