I have realized that I will not become a millionaire from gambling. I try and control my tilt betting. I have made mistakes, but never a devastating mistake. I like action. Action and competition are my addictions. By controlling my money management, I am still able to gamble on sports and poker.

I would never advocate someone gambling, but if they like action, I find money management the key.

I have many friends over the years who have crashed and burned via gambling due to money management. I have continued to feed my action because of money management. That's the only tip I have based on my 30 years of action. Best wishes.
Good advice, but learnng money management is the hardest thing for me to do, and I dont understand why.

Dude...I understand. You have a lot to be happy about ... seriously ... I would step away from this. Most of us are just a bunch of unhappy people. If I was in your situation (have a family) I would not be here.

Well, I set a % of my bankroll that I bet on a daily basis. I am sure you have heard this advice.

If you really can not control your bankroll, then you may want to quit. I have seen some lives ruined by gambling problems. It has not been fun to watch.

1unit=1 percent of bankroll (at times I have made it 1/2%). Regular plays 3 units, very good plays 4-5 units, "locks" 5-6 units. I would have to lose 20 "locks" or 35 regular plays to zero out my bankroll...possible but unlikely. If I did I would probably not gamble anymore.

You guys are mean. Good luck Dashwood. If you come back bet more wisely.

When Pavy is calling out other posters for being mean, you know it's below the belt.

Good luck to you Dashwood. Get your priorities straight and your mind right. You'll be happier for it.

Thanks Paver, and congrats on winning the fantasy football league. I am taking time off, I need to, as I need time away, and I need to learn discipline. No one is being mean. I started this thread, I can handle anything thrown my way, good or bad. Lots of solid posters have replied, with support as well as knowledge, and that is greatly appreciated. I can only blame myself for my lack of discipline. I am sure most cappers go through rough spells, but they are capable of navigating their way through it. It is something I need to learn. Hopefully this past dismal month will have taught me a lesson.

I'm sure he will be back...but he needs to spend some time pleasuring his wife before he returns to the game.

And no, my own advice does not apply to me. I'm above my own rules.

Lack of discipline is the scourge of all gamblers. What I did in the past to get out of it is to take time off and only bet on playoffs, major tournaments like March Madness or World Cup of Soccer, Euro etc. Most gamblers are streaky and I found it much easier to beat the lines on major events than actually try to do it during the regural season when games are fixed or coaches try different schemes to improve their teams. What you can also do is put money on the side weekly till you built up a bankroll and when you clear your mind and find some tourney or a team that you like ride them hard and you will win. I have been very profitable this year betting the Falcons and Hawks and fading the Thrashers. I feel I have a good read on my local teams because I read the paper, watch the news on TV and watch all their games. I don't give a damn what the Kansas City Chiefs, San Jose Sharks or Utah Utes do so I don't bet them.

I thought you never ever watched the games you bet on Pavy?

If you don't give a damn about these other teams, how do you know how to bet your teams when they face them. By listening to your biased local reporting? That will bite you in the ass eventually.

You need a break. Take it. You'll come back better and smarter.

Because the Falcons played the Chiefs once and the Thrashers played the Sharks once a year. I know how good my teams are. When all the public was betting Celtics -10 and Celtics -3.5 against Hawks I was cashing Hawks +10 and Hawks +3.5 tickets. When everyone and their chicken were on Vikings -3.5 I was cashing Falcons ML.

You are 29 years old. You cannot quit on your own. You will need professional help in order to not gamble anymore.
